The football references feel purposeful, but then the rest of the narrative is about someone from Her past. I think a lot of songs in this album are i inspired by more than one muse/situation honestly 11

vale9001 Posted April 25 Posted April 25 The fact he says 5-6 albums when 10 albums are nominated just tell you he knows the album is not a 3/10. At least he didn't think every year the grammys nominate 5 albums there are just 2/10 albums. And he doesn't think that of course A fraud
YR. Posted April 25 Posted April 25 Well these reviews will make her replace Jack. Somehow we won again 1 1 2
PrismaticOwen Posted April 25 Posted April 25 after nearly a week of processing this album I think my favs are: (in no particular order yet) fortnight peter loml the albatross I look in people's windows What I will say for my experience with this album first listen and first week is that it didn't hit me right off the bat like Midnights did. Like when I heard Anti-Hero for the first time, I knew it was going straight to one of my all time favs. Maroon, Labyrinth, etc. I feel like with TTPD, you really need to let the songs sit for a few listens. Down Bad gives me Midnight Rain vibes - in the sense that my first listen it was one of my least favs, but after a few listens it quickly became one of my favs. SO F**K YOU IF I CAN'T HAVE US!!! Also think the part of me that wanted Taylor to go back to the folklore/evermore sound is satisfied with songs like The Albatross, How Did It End?, and Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus. Lyrically, Midnights is more of a self-reflective/self-deprecating - like, is it my fault?/is it my fault, a lot of uncertainty and second guessing yourself etc album but I think TTPD is more of a no - it's actually YOUR fault too baby! and both can exist! 3

At this stage we need to acknowledge that they are now a conjointed twins, musically. And Taylor loves nothing more than proving critics to be wrong. 1 1 1
Mandalore Posted April 25 Posted April 25 (edited) When Taypetty makes Jack use a pseudonym and everyone suddenly stans the new producer only to do the reveal after the reviews come in Edited April 25 by Mandalore 14
Rep2000 Posted April 25 Posted April 25 And to be clear, I dont need Taylor to stop working with Jack all together. But I just need for them to have someone else also to be in the room to breath some freshness. 3 1

BloodLuster Posted April 25 Posted April 25 I second the Swiftie that said some pages ago that she should call Rick Nowels and Rick Rubin 1

Saintlor Posted April 25 Posted April 25 Why are some people hating on Taylor for not wanting to be with Joe while he's depressed? Not everyone has to want to be with someone who's depressed or spend the rest of their life with them It is what it is 3
scottstreet Posted April 25 Posted April 25 The song that sums up this album is But Daddy I Love Him! That song is the starting point of her new age on songwriting, it's the first song she wrote without thinking about the narratives her art would create. She talks about things that for other people would feel pathetic, and she KNOWS it, but she simply doesn't care, it's tongue-in-cheek without being cringe or victimizing herself. A constant 4th wall break! In some of her other songs (mostly reputation), where she acts "unbothered", you can feel that she's pretending to feel that way, but on But Daddy I Love Him she ACTUALLY doesn't give a f*ck! It's songwriting in a way she never did before. A CAREER HIGHLIGHT! 12 1

It's songwriting in a way she never did before. A CAREER HIGHLIGHT! And because I see future in this new writing style, I kinda resent the idea of The Anthology. Even though I like the Side B songs, they feel self-indulgent, they stop people from learning to appreciate new sounds from her. The Anthology feels like a reflect of Tay's apprehension of entering a new lyrical territory with both feet, she felt the need to release something similar to her recent sound (folkmore) because she's still afraid. SHE SHOULDN'T BE! IT'S A NEW DAWN! This is also the reason i feel like I Hate It Here first lines come from a self-reflection point of view, I think she feels this way rn. ATRL Moderator feelslikeadream Posted April 25 ATRL Moderator Posted April 25 Anyone else obsessed with the drums in Guilty as Sin? Halfway through the second verse, the tempo increases when she sings, "there's no such thing as bad thoughts / only your actions talk." And then there's a cymbal crash when she sings the line, "We've already done it in my head," and the drumming pattern adds the cymbal for the rest of the verse. The way the drums BUILD to reflect the building of sexual tension, oh, genius struck Mr. Antonoff on that one I fear 8 3

Saintlor Posted April 25 Posted April 25 Taylor has gotten very good at using her voice from Midnights onwards I would say she is much better at using her voice, expression and cadence than vocalists like Demi and Ariana Fortnight and Anti Hero's verses highlight this a lot 2 1

The GP tuned in and decided its classic after classic. Which is funny because for the people who want her to flop into oblivion you'd think they'd stop giving her all this attention and publicity 2
Squall Posted April 25 Posted April 25 I don't understand how she could record MBOBHFT and not think it needed a final chorus
Arrows Posted April 25 Posted April 25 Can't get enough of this album. It's her best and by far. It's not a massive genre change, but why does it have to be? She's expanding her sound from previous albums, but is doing everything so much better. 2
