Taylor Swift - 'THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT'

What if he's written 'mine' on my upper thigh
Only in my mind?
One slip and falling back into the hedge maze
Oh what a way to die
I keep recalling things we never did
Messy top lip kiss
How I long for our trysts

OHMYGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD

The closure slander in here has got to stop!

It's been a long time

And seeing the shape of your name
Still spells out pain
It wasn't right
The way it all went down
Looks like you know that now

Yes, I got your letter
Yes, I'm doing better
It cut deep to know ya
Right to the bone
Yes, I got your letter
Yes, I'm doing better
I know that it's over
I don't need your closure
Your closure

Don't treat me like some situation that needs to be handled
I'm fine with my spite
And my tears
And my beers and my candles
I can feel you smoothing me over

Yes, I got your letter
Yes, I'm doing better
It cut deep to know ya
Right to the bone
Yes, I got your letter
Yes, I'm doing better
I know that it's over
I don't need your closure
Your closure
Your closure
Your closure

I know I'm just a
Wrinkle in your new life
Staying friends
Would iron it out so nice
Guilty, guilty reaching out across the sea
That you put between you and me
But it's fake
And it's oh so unnecessary

Yes, I got your letter
Yes, I'm doing better
It cut deep to know ya
Right to the bone
Yes, I got your letter
Yes, I'm doing better
I know that it's over
I don't need your closure, closure
Your closure
Your closure

Fresh Out the Slammer is especially hitting now :giraffe:

the "swirled you into all of my poems" totally makes Midnights make more sense. Mess :deadbanana2:

"The coward claimed he was a lion"

Probably one of the most cutting lines she's ever written. She sings it with sincerity and sadness, like she believed it too :(

loml melody is hauntingly beautiful. Out of all the song and you pick the most melodic song to make an example that this album has no melody.

Well, maybe you're right, the album has no melody at all. It was just laced with narcotics.

After sitting with the album for nearly a week now, I can say that this is my favorite album from her, and by a long shot.

The lyricism is just truly next level. The first part of the album is a nod to her style in her early days (up to Red), where you could feel the writing was very cathartic. Throughout the first half of the album she's really in the thick of it, just lashing out. On the second part, she adopts the type of lyricism that is more present in the second half of her career, something that is more about processing the emotion, understanding them, rather than living them directly. To me, this album is in two part but I would never consider the project like 2 separate albums. One part is about expressing the emotions how she lived through them, and the second part about processing them. It's truly brilliant.

Melodically, I can't help but constantly having another song playing in my head. Everything is just so catchy and memorable. Special mention to My Boy, Florida, Fresh Out The Slammer, Down Bad, So Long London, The Alchemy and Guilty As Sin on part 1, and The Black Dog, The Albatross, CoSoSoM, So High School (!!!!), I Hate It Here, thanK you aIMee and The Bolter on the second part. All these songs are popping in my head randomly and constantly. A blessing.

Production-wise, this is a moment most pleasing to me. The second part of the album is not anything new, but it's just beautiful, and serve the songs perfectly. Aaron we love you. Part 1 is very interesting to me. The first 3/4 track are really acting as a bridge between Midnights and TTPD, but from So Long London onwards, there's a lot happening in the production and it clearly draws influence from many type of sounds. Fresh Out The Slammer, Florida and Guilty As Sin might have some of the finest moments production wise on the record. And obviously, the masterpiece of the album, Who's Afraid Of Little Old Me that sounds so EPIC.

Overall, I think I'm naturally drawn to part 2 more musically. Like these are the songs that I'm gonna have on REPEAT. But the sound of part 1, and the songwriting is general, feels so exciting that I can't outright say that I prefer one part over the other. They clearly complement each other perfectly and I love that.

So basically, evermore, I'm sorry. You've had a good run, but it's time to accept you've lost the title of best Taylor Swift album. You will be deeply missed, but never forgotten as the OG legend.

I can't wait to witness this album live, it is going to be EPIC. Once again, thank you Taylor for blessing us with this.
