it mostly has to do with Mine. like how do you look past Enchanted, Mean, Dear John, Last Kiss, Ours, and Superman, and go for one of the weakest songs to represent such a solid album? :deadbanana2: it really was her first ME! and it threw me off back then.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?! :deadbanana2:

i feel like Speak Now, like Reputation, is a "you just HAD to be there" kind of album, and i was there for Rep but not SN, so that's why it's not clicking as much for me.

WENGBT made me interested enough to buy Red, and when i bought Red... when i tell you i was FLOORED.

i like SN now and only listen to TV, but i feel like her matured vocals (which i love) don't do the punky raunchy vibe justice as OG did (i listened to it a few weeks before TV came out).

There's no way you actually think Mine is on the same level as ME! ..... that is a disgrace.

Mine is one of her best songs of all time and I will die on that hill. It is the perfect combination of country pop and rock and is a lyrical masterpiece.

If you were in the fandom during the early days, you would know that WANEGBT was actually the first ME! everyone in the fandom was scared that she was going down the pop route and everyone found the lyrics cringy and too repetitive. The reaction was even worse when Shake It Off was the lead single for 1989.

WANEGBT is actually what got me invested in Red :superman:

i don't mean Mine is as bad as ME!, but it's one of the weakest tracks on SN for ME!

I would lowkey agree with you if you didn't include Ours and Superman :deadbanana: It's true there are better tracks like Back to December, Haunted, Long Live, Enchanted, Dear John, Last Kiss, Sparks Fly but honestly Mine was a fair choice for a radio hit.

This :rip: Speak Now was the fan favorite album for a long time, and Dear John/Last Kiss/Enchanted were the original ATW. And then came WANEGBT which alienated so many fans, despite it smashing with the GP. But of course the album proved its worth and ATW became the poster child for the Taylor fan favorite.

SIO was another ME!-gate because it alienated so many Swifties too, and WTNY as a pre-release didn't help too. But then everything changed when the album dropped.

Honestly this was a recurring pattern that also manifested in rep too. All her lead singles were mini ME!s in themselves. Mine definitely isn't the worst offender. :dies:

the problem with him is that he does have genuinely interesting and thought-provoking takes on her artistry and celebrity but that gets boggled down by how combative, sanctimonious and pious he comes across. he claims to have created a space for free-thinking swifties but then shuts down anyone that disagrees with him/criticizes his takes. i was an avid watcher but the GODnights smear campaign really turned me off

would've loved to see his meltdown when GODnights conquered :ryan3:

I loved WANEGBT… I got into SN a year after its release and was interested in her next era and the MOMENT I heard WANEGBT I was obsessed. I remember looking at ATRL as a guest back in the day as the album leaked :rip:

After WANEGBT/SIO, I just didn't take her leads seriously and knew there would be stronger songs on the proceeding albums, and just enjoyed them for what they were until the full record(s). Same thing with Look, which I did enjoy but also think in retrospect is very indicative of rep sonically as an album in a way We (sonically) and Shake It Off (lyrically) were not of their parent albums. Then came the ME!/YNTCD summer... Oh, lord. Anyways! I was worried for Lover for a good while.

I think Taylor has stepped away from that radio ready/hit making lead single era of her career. She's proving with each album that she is, nowadays, incredibly capable of putting out a body of work initially, without any indication of its sounds (folklore, evermore, Midnights and, hell, even Red TV to an extent) and I think that is what makes her so fascinating as a singer and artist, especially when everything about TTPD is pretty much known at this point (cover, tracklist, etc). We get the excitement of wondering what this will sound like whether its synthpop, soft rock or idk, heavy metal :gaylorcat1: It's always exciting to be a Swiftie but even more so in the run up to an album!!

I'm pretty sure But Daddy, I Love Him is a discussion she had with Scott about Joe. Scott would take a bullet for Taylor and I think it's likely he thought Taylor deserved better. If my prediction is right, I think it begins with But Daddy, I Love Him! and ends with But Daddy, I Love Him?

Saying this for the 13th time now, she should've NEVER removed "Hey kids, spelling is fun!"

It's an "Only Taylor Swift could've written that" line.

Tbh the fact that another variant hasn’t been announced yet might be a good sign… means it’s already selling so well that they don’t see the need to announce it.

Posted

I could see them announcing a variant on the 15th and on the last day of the month and then mid march (pay days)

Well yeah if you look at it in hindsight they were huge pop moments for Taylor, but when they were initially released in 2012/2014 the fandom hated those songs
