Is it though ? Midnights is her best produced album. Maroon alone is greatly produced... this one seems to be not rushed but lazy like she did not try hard or worked  hard enough on the melodies or came up with great hooks. I mean the album is a bit of a misfire.

I don't think we can fully judge the quality of the production until we have high quality digital and streaming releases. I don't agree at all that it sounds anywhere close to lazy, but I think that will reveal itself better when we can clearly hear every layer and detail of the production. I'm not sure that will make you enjoy it any more than you do, which is totally fine and fair and valid, but before full release it's just hard to make certain judgments.

Lyrically this is probably her best pop album and there is a couple cute tracks ... but thats it
I just hate Jack production so much at this point
Its sad but i have to accept that Taylor was my favorite artist for her first 9 studio album but she will never recreate this magic if she keeps working with the same producers
i relistened to Red after a couple PTSD listens and wew.. the melodies are just so so much better idk what it is

I will try to stop crying about the album for a couple days to let you guys enjoy it and see if it grows on me, but i'll be here to stan the numbers:gaycat1:

Wait why is this era's color red @ your sig

This is better than Midnights but I do feel like critics will drag it a bit because she's overexposed right now and people are tired of Jack production, people want something different but she keeps repeating the same thing over and over again. That Charli line is a small mistake but it can bring huge impact on the album as whole.

this is overdramatic tbh it is not the same thing over and over again and charlie line is nothing serious

I love Taylor sooo so much and it breaks my heart that im not loving this album as much. I thought of Tapestry by Carole king being an inspiration but sadly it wasnt meant to be. The way she said this was a lifeline record it doesnt feel like it though . Loml, black dog are exceptions  though brilliant songs and down bad too.

i have yet to hear the album but from all the reactions it seems to be a mid 2.0 for only 5 first tracks and then it turns into a new direction for tay.

i think there's a few people who are disappointed cause they were expecting another genre shift but idk she still can do that another time considering she's not gonna fade away for another decade at least

The song with the best melodies is Fortnight thanks to Miss Post with ha outro

For me the biggest problem isn't even the MIDnights production, but it's the lack of catchy hooks and melodies (bar like 3 songs)

I in general think some of y'all need to let the idea of any Taylor album being universally beloved online go (folklore was probably the first and last time), she's simply too big / controversial and even her own fanbase are so divided about what they want from her sonically (see: the success of Midnights relative to its reception within online spaces) that having anyone agree on anything is impossible

Add to that the fact that there is a sizeable amount of people who will simply not like whatever it is she releases and are very loud about it too, so I'd recommend enjoying the album if you do and not getting caught up in whatever lyric 2k people on Twitter/X don't like today

Even the first several tracks have some very clear sonic distinctions from Midnights. I think they're best viewed as part of the "new" sound, even if they have a few more superficial similarities to Midnights. Lyrically they're in-line with the rest of the album.

You misunderstood, that's not my opinion I enjoy TTPD but you can see some people expect something different. Of course Charlie line is not serious but is it necessary? :gaycat6:

that's exactly how it is, the first 5 tracks are just Jacks's usual synth type of production + ICDWABH, the rest is very good to me

I really like Midnights, especially YOYOK, Maroon, Dear Reader, Glitch, WCS, Labyrinth, Mastermind, SOTB, BTTWS, Paris. Do yall think I will like the album?

Guys I am so tempted to listen to The Black Dog right now since it won't be on Spotify on release..............
Should I just do it now or should I play it after I listen to the entire album when it LEGALLY comes out :ryan3:

Here's my ranking:

Guilty as Sin?

Clara Bow

Florida!!!

MBOBHFT

The Alchemy

The Black Dog

Fortnight

TSMWEL

WAOLOM

ICDIWABH

BDILH

SLL

FOTS

ICFH(NRIC)

loml

DB

TTPD

the interesting thing about the final 3 it's that it's probably more their production choices. Not bad songs at all.

this doesn't have nearly as many highs as Midnights, we don't get into the "new" soundscape until track 5 and onward and even that doesn't feel like new territory from her or her producers.
