Will Pochettino survive the summer?

Do you think Mauricio Pochettino will be able to hold on to his job as Chelsea manager beyond the end of the season?

The Argentine, 52, was given the target of achieving a league position that will qualify Chelsea for a European competition.

Chelsea is currently 9th in the Premier League table but with at least two games in hand over the clubs above them. A seventh place finish - enough to qualify for either the Europa League or the Conference League - is still possible, though it will rely on the young squad performing consistently in the business end of the season - something that has alluded Poch so far.

It should be noted that on his appointment, Poch said there are no excuses for not winning immediately, but he's now changed his tune and pleaded for patience. He also hasn't built a positive relationship with supporters and is frequently booed.

There are rumours that a break clause in his contract would allow the club to sack him in the summer without paying compensation. He was also only offered a short 2+1 contract, which doesn't indicate Chelsea's owners and directors ever saw him as a long-term option.

What say you, ATRL? Will he survive? Should he survive?

People always say they're tired of the same topics so I'm bringing something new to the table :heart2:

Lots of queer people like football. So many clubs have LGBTQ+ supporters groups and do a lot of work on diversity and inclusion with charities, including Chelsea!

Unless "summer" is referring to a locker room orgy that will be happening, and you're asking if he'll survive it. What do you expect LPSG-lite ATRL to know about this topic?

Are there any viable options they can replace him with? I don't really follow the Premier League that much anymore

There have been lots of leaks about the shortlist they have. Arne Slot and Hansi Flick seem to be the favourites. Unfortunately the owners go all out bringing in elite and experienced players and managers for the women's team but for the men's team they only want a yesman who will go along with their transfer policy.

Edit: not saying Flick isn't elite (or a level below elite at least), but he's been out of work for a while and has a good relationship with the Chelsea board so would probably bend to their conditions. I also don't think he's the right manager for the players we have.

I'm desperate for Poch to go though, to the point I don't even care right now who the replacement is. He's had ten months and there's still no style of play or consistency.

Arne? His contract with Shitenoord is till 2025 and he's doing really well there... Currently second in Eredivisie standings and finalist for the KNVB Cup. I don't see him leaving. Flick seems realistic.

Yeah, there are rumours he turned down Chelsea and Spurs last summer to stay. I'm not going to lie and say I watch the Eredivisie and know much about him, but in the PL I'm sure he couldn't be worse than how Poch has been this season

ngl I kinda love how you didn't went with something like 'general football thread' but straight to a specific topic lol

I'm not super familiar with Chelsea but it's crazy to me how they're not doing better with such a good team, seems like they need a coach who can handle strong/diva personalities

but anyway I just hope the rat Enzo Fernandez flops there :giraffe: we didn't forget what you did puta

Not sure if Arne is up for the task in the Premier League... But I'm a biased Ajax fan so

yeah, everyone knows the difference a good manager can make. Leverkusen and Villa both went from the relegation spots to top 4/league title when they made their changes. Unfortunately the owners don't want a manager that will challenge them, as any good manager would. There aren't even that many players with personalities that are difficult to deal with in the team - they're all pretty likeable and there are almost no dressing room leaks anymore. The only one who briefs to the press is Sterling but a) the club will probably try to get rid of him in the summer, b) his PR only does it after bad games when Chelsea fans boo him and demand he's sold, and c) the briefs from his team are pretty positive, just saying he wants to stay at the club and improve. We just need an elite tactician that the club will back with two or three experienced, specialised signings.

I know Enzo didn't leave Benfica on good terms but I love him as a player. I hate to see what Poch has done to him this season because between January and May 2023 he was outstanding for us.

yeah it's been since after we won the Club World Cup at the start of 2022. The league form started to deteriorate under Tuchel, Potter was decent for about 10 games then things went wrong, and Lampard interim was absolutely horrific with an 11% win rate. Thankfully we got rid of (or are in the process of getting rid of) players like Pulisic, Mount, Lukaku and Ziyech who created a bad atmosphere around the club and were notorious leakers. Poch is out of his depth and football has moved on from him - he couldn't get the best out of a team with Messi, Neymar and Mbappe and now he can't get results out of a team that's stockpiling some of the best young talent in the world.

Basically the signings have been decent (but we need some more experienced players who are already elite for the younger high potential players to learn from), the cultural change at the club has been good, but the managerial appointments since the takeover have been awful

Ziyech fell off HARD and Poch is a loser
