Prisoner Posted April 11 Posted April 11 There she was smashing with Dance the night, which was the perfect evolution to the Future nostalgia sound. She could've create a new album full of pink pop perfection songs like DTN. It would have been her Confessions on a dance floor to Hard candy transition. Instead of taking the path she's taking right now, (i acknowledge houdini is serving longevity lowkey,) she should've went the safe route instead of embarking on such a risky sound and image. She's only two albums in and she should've saved this sound for a future era. What do you guys think?

prettyinpink940 Posted April 11 Posted April 11 Quote It would have been her Confessions on a dance floor to Hard candy transition. So it would have been a terrible transition. 1
KatyPrismSpirit Posted April 11 Posted April 11 How is this era risky? I'm still waiting for those psychedelic songs tbh. So far she released only pure pop songs in my opinion 5 3
Sheep Posted April 11 Posted April 11 Houdini was better than DTN as well as the majority of her last record so
Archetype Posted April 11 Posted April 11 4 minutes ago, Prisoner said: such a risky sound and image There is nothing risky about Houdini and Training Season. They are pop songs with influences of 70's sounds, but they're still pure pop songs with catchy verses, hooks, choruses, etc. The only "risk" is just releasing a sound that is currently off-trend, but that doesn't automatically set her up for failure
Virgos Groove Posted April 11 Posted April 11 Houdini is a perfectly logical evolution from FN (maybe too logical). Why are we acting like she started doing heavy metal? 1 1 3
PaloSanto Posted April 11 Posted April 11 There's nothing risky about the new singles, they all bop tho
Dula Peep Posted April 11 Posted April 11 Illusion is literally dropping today and is following that sound
wildsidenormani Posted April 11 Posted April 11 No because we never would've gotten the avante garde haute couture serve Godini 2
Twizzy Posted April 11 Posted April 11 I believe she is going the safe route, that's the problem. Houdini was a little risky since that sound is not popular now but wasn't something out the ordinary for what was expected following FN. The last 2 singles tho.. she's ruining her momentum.
Dante Silva Posted April 11 Posted April 11 What is risky about a generic dance/ pop sound that is atypical of so many European pop girls? I ask as I'm genuinely mystified as to what the non risky alternative you envisage is? A few weeks ago someone chastised Dua for not replicating Tate McCrae's take on Rn'B lite? Was that a lone opinion or is it the default view of North American pop culture enthusiasts? If so, what exactly is it about Tate McCrae that makes the U.S. love that sound so much?
Escape Posted April 11 Posted April 11 (edited) The way ATRL pushes Dua as non-safe artist is truly baffling. It all started with Future Nostalgia when gays decided she's new supreme MPG who is held on this very special pedestal. Edited April 11 by Danes 3

Sun Posted April 11 Posted April 11 All she does is go the safe route... When has Ms. Lipa ever taken a risk in her career musically speaking? 3
Khal Posted April 11 Posted April 11 She has never taken a risk so far in her career, bffr Acting like she's serving Bjork when she's just a few notches above Ava Max. 3 5 1
illia Posted April 11 Posted April 11 Dance The Night is NOT an evolution from Future Nostaliga. If anything, it's devolution 1
CottageHore Posted April 11 Posted April 11 1. This new music is a perfect evolution of her sound. It's not that different. 2. An artist being guided by their musical interests and artistic inclination will always be better than them selling out for a faceless hit. Yall are doing way too much. She may not have a ubiquitous smash like she did with her first two albums, but this is shaping up to be a very solid album and will likely not be fully appreciated until down the line in retrospect.
burninredhot Posted April 11 Posted April 11 Both Houdini and TS are earworms and good smash hit baits. It's just bad luck that they didn't blow up as hard as her team expected
