Puttanesca Posted April 7 Posted April 7 Why are there always weirdos in every RAYE thread? Anyways, she was incredible as usual and she deserves all of the success in the world. 7

We know the music industry is political and prestigious awards/ high profile TV slots don't simply just land in someone's lap through talent alone and when they do, it's traditionally when a major label is fighting their artist's corner. None of which we can assume with Raye since she's an independent. I'm not questioning her talent in any way, I'm merely attempting to identify who is co-ordinating this stuff behind the scenes. I see where you come from. Honestly there's a lot of "non-hitmakers" that do the SNL, american or not. They do every season a mix of high profile performances and acclaimed musicians. In my opinion, the smashery of Escapism and Prada especially on her home market added to the narrative of the industry underdog that found her way as a independent artist, and this led to her BRIT Awards sweep. With accolades like this and a universally acclaimed album and tour, this probably led to opportunities like this big TV slot. So, summing it up, her craft caused this domino effect of promo. As it was pointed, she's on a family management deal, she's independent. But she has distribution with The Orchard, which is under the Sony Music umbrella, and her A&R is the same as Beyoncé. Also she's a high profile songwriter for a whole decade at this point. Of course she has some connections, however I don't think this structure is enough to fund all of this, yk? 2
abrantino Posted April 7 Posted April 7 she's such a good and charming live performer still can't believe I only paid like 30$ to see her + didn't even have to arrive super early to get to the front row outside of the UK I def feel like she's still underrated and some people only see her as the 'Prada'/random dance song hook singer 1

Have you guys forgotten how artists used to promote 1

She won 6 BRIT's because she is highly respected in the British music industry. Career achievements like winning a record-breaking 6 Brits, having two major global smashes in one year, having 32 million monthly listeners, an album that is critically acclaimed, and selling out a headlining world tour are all door-opening moments that lead to more offers and opportunities. Not everything is some industry plant conspiracy. It's taken a decade for Raye to get to this point, out of all artists who are coming up in the industry, Raye's rise is one of the most organic. 4 2
Babydoll. Posted April 7 Posted April 7 waiiittt shes eating. my bestie showed videos of her at her show a few weeks ago and i was gagged. i didnt know she was a singer singer lol.
Alex Posted April 7 Posted April 7 I also need more pop music from her she's just too much of a melodic genius
liquiddiamonds Posted April 7 Posted April 7 SNL is really not THAT huge platform for performers these days. If anything RAYE fits right under the type of music their audience would **** with, therefore a logical booking. Booking is not only about good management. Those people gatekeeping need to like your **** or at least feel you will be a good pull for audiences. Back in the 90s a bunch of indie artists used to do Letterman and other shows. It's not unheard of. Anitta has great management and I can't see SNL booking her because of the reasons I mentioned. But that's not even RAYE's case since she had a hit last year in the US and her performances go viral all the time. It's a shoe-in OT: Great performance as usual

Dula Peep Posted April 7 Posted April 7 I've been begging for her to slay SNL... just for her to secure this spot with Kristin hosting.... gag. Talent truly won.

Revel Posted April 7 Posted April 7 She's such an incredible artist. I'm so happy how she has come into her own since Escapism blew up! She deserves the world and more .
