Gladiator Posted April 7 Posted April 7 (edited) Because Taylor put out a series of playlists that represent the theme of sections of The Tortured Poets Department, and swifties do as swifties do and are reading into the name of the playlist, the songs on each and how they relate to each other, and many of them doing this do not have jobs or friends and it is the weekend. Cruel Summer Posted April 7 Posted April 7 Ultimately, we knew nothing real about their private relationship at the time and know just as little now, so I feel like retrospective analysis of her work changing the narrative should be permissible. Maybe she sees those songs differently now, maybe she already knew she was trying to ignore problems at the time, maybe those songs are just on the playlists because she knows other people can feel that way about those feelings and it means nothing about her own feelings and it's just to fill out a playlist and get some cute streams - who's to say? I mean, really I think it actually boils down to people super over-analyzing a relatively innocuous move that Taylor made explicitly in response to fans' own theories, but that's par for the course when it comes to Taylor Swift and parasocial relationships. Any little thing she does is going to be amplified in the eyes of people who concern themselves deeply with her personal life. And I think, at this point, she knows that and maybe even plays into it when it's beneficial to her. 3
