Richie.Valdez Posted April 5 Posted April 5 IDK why randoms's opinions are valued to be posted? They could say that they like to eat sh it and it will be posted? oki 10 1
i spit on haters Posted April 5 Posted April 5 The same would have to apply to white people, too. None the less, I can't say I disagree but I'm also not sure why it matters ? I'm a Black-American, who like J.Lo, also grew up in Bronx, N.Y. --- I didn't know who Selena was until the biopic. I heard some of her music being played in various sections of NY, which has a huge population of Latinos/Hispanics/PRs, etc. but didn't know the artist behind said songs. Selena wasn't able to break into U.S. mainstream before her life was unfortunately cut short. Most Americans, Black or not, didn't know Selena prior to J.Lo's telling of her story. 3

BorderBoy Posted April 5 Posted April 5 (edited) Selena is the reason JLo's career took off globally. Yes, the movie was an international hit and people to know more about 'that Mexican singer who was killed by her manager" as everyone referred to her at the beginning but Selena was a big deal already in the US and all of Latin America. barbiegrande Posted April 5 Posted April 5 Congrats on JLo's biggest achievement being that she introduced people to a more talented artist. 16 2
ImsoLOUD Posted April 5 Posted April 5 Me searching for the "hot guy" here The movie introduced her to tons of people in all demographics that weren't familiar with her prior/alive to witness her time. 3

Adrian14 Posted April 5 Posted April 5 (edited) Selena sang in Spanish, she shouldn't have to be known by black people. Edited April 5 by Adrian14 1

TROPICUM Posted April 5 Posted April 5 sure that biopic introduced the wonderful and talented (actual) latin act that was selena to different audiences other than the mexican-american/mexican public and quite honestly that's the most culturally significant thing jlo has ever done in her career, and i don't think she'll be able to top that. ever 1 1 1
