gloamingtheplain Posted April 4 Posted April 4 At first I was like, surely Mario? But I think Mario is a character that is basically the chess piece to his game but isn't actually a well defined "character" as such. Whereas Lara is. So well done Lara 5 3
Hephaestus Posted April 4 Posted April 4 She's an icon for sure, but Mario and Pikachu are right there 7
Apostolis Posted April 4 Posted April 4 y'all in this thread preferring an Italian and a rat over a woman is just not it 5
LoveInStereo Posted April 4 Posted April 4 (edited) Hard disagree but there're 2 factors I think influenced this heavily. 1, she's the title character. Legend of Zelda has had so many smash successes but GP still thinks Link's name is Zelda. Master Chief in Halo has the same thing going on. Branding wise, she has that advantage. 2nd, she's the most interesting part of her games. Mario is the "straight man" in a rly colourful in-game world. If you're a fan of the Mario games, odds are your fav character isn't Mario, it's gonna be Luigi, Toadette, King Boo, Bowser, etc. 1 of the characters with more personality. No shade, it's easy for LC to standout in her games, there's not much else going on? Edited April 4 by LoveInStereo 1

Unlikely. Mario is the brand of the game that everyone loves. But likely isn't the favourite. Same way Pikachu is the brand for Pokémon 9/10 but arguably isn't most people's favourite Pokémon. 1
Apolonio ₃₄ Posted April 4 Posted April 4 She's literally the most iconic and defining video game character of the '90s. Of course! 1

Mario is easily the most iconic, anyone recognizes him. If people play as him when given the choice is another story... I agree that Lara is a more interesting character but that's not really what the award is about. Edited April 4 by Mr. Peanutbutter
