If that had been the follow-up to Wrecking Ball in Q4 2013 (instead of Abhor You), given the sounds of the time and where she was career-wise, it would've SMASHED

 

The way the pre-chorus just explodes into the chorus and the EDM elements would've devoured :jonny5:

Nightmare is good, sounds very of its time tho, very 2012/2013ish

Would've been a #1 if she released it after Adore You. Still one of her best songs to this day. Every melody, the pacing, buildup, tension… absolute pop perfection

In the same way radio told Columbia "No" when Katy was at one point going to go with "Walking on Air", I suspect something similar happened with RCA and "Nightmare".
