Strawberry Bubble Posted April 4 Posted April 4 (edited) Name an artist who is literally impossible to escape in your country or city, and give examples of why that is. This type of artist is the one that, even if you want to avoid hearing about them, you can't. Feel free to also share where you are from. As I'm from Latin America, I'll have to go with Shakira. I know this may be hard to understand for some of you, but Shakira is like Jesus Christ here. She is IMPOSSIBLE to escape; people can't stop talking about her on TV, social media, radio, and more. She's everywhere. I conducted a personal experiment last year, and this is not an exaggeration: there was not ONE single week when I didn't hear about her involuntarily. She was constantly on the radio, her videos flooded social media, and she appeared on TV shows regularly. She's more popular than any local president. Another artist who reached this level of ubiquity was Bad Bunny from 2020 to 2022. Ed Sheeran was also overwhelmingly popular in 2017. Do you have any similar examples from your region? Cloröx Posted April 4 Posted April 4 Taylor Swift. She's even become a hot political topic here. Our opposition are very conservative Islamic party, they are very vocal in criticizing any international concert but somehow defy their principal and drag the gov for failing to bring The Eras Tour here 1

popmusicisdead Posted April 4 Posted April 4 Taylor is literally inescapable in the Philippines. the national uproar when she didn't come here for the Era's Tour it's actually kind of embarrassing.

Taylor Swift is obviously popular here, but she is not ubiquitous at all. You have to actively search for her music to listen to it. Do you have any examples of how big she is there?" 1
wastedpotential Posted April 4 Posted April 4 (edited) I've lived in Texas for most of my life and Taylor continues to overwhelm the conversation about everything. When Eras was in Arlington and in Houston I had well in excess of 100 IRLs go to at least one of the six shows, at least according to their instagram stories. Granted, I went to high school relatively close to Arlington (though I live several hours away now), but a sizable number of people I know went to Houston too. One Taylor song is playing on the pop radio station every hour, without fail (usually Cruel Summer or Is It Over Now?, but I'll also hear Karma, Anti-Hero, You Belong With Me, I Knew You Were Trouble, Blank Space or Bad Blood at least once a month in that rotation ), and the DJs usually talk about what she and Travis are doing when they introduce whatever Taylor song they're playing as I listen on my morning commute (and I mean... every morning ). I was at a house party last week and some girl I didn't even know (and who would've had no way of knowing I'm a literal stan), like 90 seconds into conversation, started talking to me about how she'd randomly been getting into Taylor recently and that her boyfriend had gotten her tickets to an Eras show in New Orleans, because as a gay person it's kinda just assumed you're a fan at this point. People bring up just random Taylor topics to talk about all the time, like talking about the weather or politics or their job. It feels a lot like the week Look was released, except it's been like this for a year and isn't all negative water cooler gossip about the horrible new Taylor song Edited April 4 by wastedpotential 2
brenda-walsh Posted April 4 Posted April 4 Being in the US the obvious answer is Taylor Swift, so I'll give more of an answer that directly affects my community. In the black community Beyoncé has always been EVERYWHERE and people love her of hate her, no in between. She gets mentioned and compared to everyone, brought up in every conversation, played at every function, etc. There's a social media account called Shaderoom and anytime they post her its lowkey a bloodbath in the comments with people praising her, claiming she bleached her skin, calling her overrated, sharing their favorite song. It never ends. And especially with how religious our community is and how much we love conspiracy theories, she's like the #1 target for that as well. But there's really no beating Beyoncé. She's our queen and for a reason. 2 1
gr33dy4Ari Posted April 4 Posted April 4 Taylor and Ariana in PH. During Christmas, you'll always hear Santa Tell Me quite literally everywhere
KOMH Posted April 4 Posted April 4 Ireland: Taylor Swift. Popularity and appeal transcends age and gender. Unparalleled demand and chart domination. Has this country on lock like no artist I've seen tbh. Beyoncé. Quite possibly the most revered live act of all time. One of the most dominant cultural forces this country has ever seen. Beloved and respected by all demographics, our politicians included. Hitmaker since day one. Rihanna. Inescapable singles force. Biggest hitmaker of the century by a long shot. Culturally prominent. HM: Dua Lipa and Ariana Grande have been continuously relevant throughout the 2010s and early 2010s. Dua is by far the biggest hitmaker from the new wave of pop girls, similar to how Rihanna was a ubiquitous radio force in the 2000s and 10s. 1
