skin tone is only one element of phenotype. ice has very unambiguous, black features

And Ice Spice literally looks like the asexual product of her Dominican mother who y'all claim to not be black.

So she has all of her mother's features including skin tone and her mother looks just as black as her but she's not black because she's Dominican

So how is it that Cardi B isn't black despite looking just like her BLACK Trinidadian mother but you lot use Cardi being Dominican as her not being black?

People's entire perception of race in the US is ****** up and weird, so not really surprising. It's a country where most of the population believes LATINO is a race ffs.

Cardi is visibly back; everyone who looks at her can see it. Even though she's light-skinned, she's darker than quite a few celebs who no one disputes are black.

No she's not lol, and being black is not about only skin tone if that was so, dark indian would be black but they aren't. Cardi knows she's not a black woman and she doesn't experience life as black woman in American just like ice spice. If there are debates on your race every five days are you really black? Just because someone is not white doesn't mean they are black.

Virtually all Dominicans have prominent~majority African ancestry irrespective of what they look like (genotype=/=phenotype) and her mother is from Trinidad, a known BLACK Caribbean Island and zero records of her having any Indo-Trinidadian ancestry

Cardi B looks just like her Trinidadian mother. Ice Spice literally looks like the asexual product of her Dominican mother. But y'all say that Dominicans aren't black and so if Ice Spice looks simply like a younger version of her mother then that means she doesn't experience life as a black woman because she doesn't look black according to your logic

Lmao, Americans genuinely are utter insane.

It's absolutely unhinged that people honestly think non-black people in the US (and most black people) are aware of every tiny phenotypical detail across races, and therefore, Cardi, a visibly black poor girl from the Brox, wouldn't be treated as black by the police, peers, and society as a whole. I hope you're just saying that for stan wars reasons because it'd be concerning if you truly believe this.

Either way, have no clue why I am surprised by these wild takes considering half of the people in this post seem to think Dominican is a race.

Some Americans have their heads so up their asses that they can't even imagine Mexicans aren't a US-based ethnicity, and the huge majority of Mexicans, which is a country of 128 million people, do not speak a word of English and therefore have never uttered the N-word.

Exactly. The only other thing that would affect how someone's treated is her name. Because like I was saying before in the US being Hispanic~Latino is racialised. If Beyoncé was of Cuban heritage and looked exactly the same (and people who look like her are common in Cuba too, mind you) they would be questioning how black she is but white people legitimately do not give a **** if you're from Grenada or from the US.

Isn't ice spice literally signed under Nicki? The maturity level should be studied

Essence did an article about how Raymonte didn't get sponsors for his birthday trip and how it's harder for black (male? Didn't read the whole article, just his response) influencers perceived as "ghetto" don't get as many opportunities. But Raymonte came for them for "using his name for clicks,” they deleted the article, and he's getting backlash for it. Somehow he brought Cardi into it and she checked him

And what does the female Ronald McDonald have to do with it? Is she associated with this Raymonte person?

Some of you are really nasty people and it's very wild to see how many microaggressions and straight up racist comments are being allowed in here. Often I feel that racism against Latinos gets overlooked here and even excused at times, and this thread just continues to prove that's the case.

I'll just say what I think from my perspective. I'm a first generation white Chicano here in the US. My parents came from Mexico when they were very young, so I've seen all the nasty things Mexicans say about afro-Latino people. Colorism is BAD amongst Mexican/Chicano people both in Mexico and in the US. But beyond that, a lot of Mexican people love to exclude afro-Latino people from being Latino. Likewise, I always see any Latino being called "Mexican" as a slur, and not only is that just nasty to say as slur in general, but it's also so tiring to see "Mexican" be used as a blanket term because I cannot stress enough how little Mexican culture and Dominican culture have in common. It's literally like two different worlds.

Although I'm not Black and don't claim to speak for any Black communities, I've also seen a lot of people denying afro-Latinos' Black identity cause they're.. Latino I guess. I couldn't tell you why. But it is so disheartening to see this particular demographic of afro-Latino people be excluded from all sides. It goes without saying that non-Latino white people also treat afro-Latino people with racism as well too.

For those reasons, I cannot fathom why what Ice Spice said clocks Cardi at all. Is Zendaya not Black cause she has a white mom? Is Drake not Black for the same reason? Is Cardi being Latina the only thing that keeps her from being Black (because she is very clearly mixed and her heritage comes from predominantly Black countries)?

I don't know if this is just some stan war **** courtesy of the most deplorable stan base in the stan world (you know who you are!), but the straight up ignorance, devotion to exclusion and overt racism surrounding this is disgusting. Keep the arguments about charts, but the way I've seen this used against Cardi as some kind of drag to invalidate her identity is stupid as ****, especially when these types of attitudes are what cause afro-Latino people to get attacked from all sides.
