Another dummy thinking having african ancestry makes you black. Most dominicans are mixed and they dont know the exact % of their admixture, only 8% of Dominicans are black black. There are more white dominicans than there are black. If those domimicans you speak of look like Cardi then they are not black.

this is the grandmother they're trying to claim is Afro Trinibagonian

:doc: 1 drop rule is nonsensical and folks defending it are a joke.

Colourism and internalised racism influences a lot of racial classifications in Latin America and people who self-identify as black still outnumber people who self ID as white as seen here. The same thing happens in Puerto Rico too. Like I knew a guy who had two black Puerto Rican parents and he himself looked blacker (not just skintone but also facial features like nose, face shape, and hair texture) than Keenan Thompson and readily did not identify as black

So you agree she's Dominican and not Mexican…

That woman literally looks as black as both of my grandmothers, from facial features to skin tone too. Am I not black now? Lol

& it's so clear that a vast majority of this discourse stems from a vested interest from #that lady and her cult/fans to reject Cardi's self identification because it is then shorthand for delegitimizing her position in the culture, and then, her success.

Because I hate reducing things like ethnicity and/or race discourse to stan **** but truly, in this case, the origin is 80% that, 20% Cardi's own (perhaps confusing, but ultimately personal) journey with how she identifies.

She is a "Mexican" not because that's a pejorative (well, hopefully not to most although the ways in which it's used with her has slur-energy, like they're ITCHING to add an adjective like "dirty" before calling her that) but because by being "outed" as a Mexican/non-black woman working and reaching astronomical success in a predominantly African-American art form, you discredit her success. It really is that simple, and it's unfortunate the lengths people — "industry veterans" — will go to protect their status and/or assuage their deep seated insecurities.

In quite a different context there are some parallels to Mariah's early career too.

Ultimately, these delegitimizing movements are stan driven nonsense. I don't even want to get into the privilege Ice Spice has as... nvm.

They actually call her dirty Mexican on Twitter. They won't say it here cuz they'd get banned/warned and think they can get away with just calling her Mexican. Again none of them care about race they only weaponize it as a shield for that lady and to denigrate Cardi because they feel Mexican is something low or an insult. Literally racism.

As a Black Dominican myself, this 8% bs is so wrong I can see why your racist, stan driven ass can see this way. Give me factual proof that it's actually 8% before coming up with more insults before I bring the mods for flambaiting.

Ddd yep

Oh and let's wake it up — as someone who is Asian, I have /every/ right in the world to choose to attack the distinct Asian cultures Nicki randomly, haphazardly chooses and/or frankly co-opts for a cute little music video or era :toofunny2: it tracks that if people are this vested — perhaps not entirely misguidedly, if we're being charitable — in the "" accuracy "" of self-identification for POC (which in itself is weird...), then I'd love to hear some thoughts about Onika and her mixed Asian heritage. Should be fair game, no?

Nicki and Cardi are both terrible human beings. That doesnt change the fact that Cardi is not black.

Oh when they get called out about that they say she's part Asian. So predictable. Look at the way these racist ******* say things on Twitter

the ones who love to play the race card. This is who they really are. The next time you see them using that remember this is how they really think and act.

They're going based off of outdated CIA stats but Dominicans' perception of race is extremely different than in the US so even that's not really accurate

Many Dominicans who would be considered mixed in the DR would be the blackest thing in all of the US but the Northeast

The difference is that in the US people who are of African ancestry are secluded to people who self-ID as black rather than African ancestry being distributed throughout the entire population. Less than 4% of White Americans have any African ancestry, for example. Meanwhile the only Dominicans who don't have African ancestry are ones whose ancestry is made up of recent immigrants

Mind you as well, the majority of maternal haplogroups in the Dominican Republic are from enslaved women. The DR is only bested by Haiti, the US, and Brazil (in ascending order of most black) for the blackest countries in the Americas/outside of Africa.

See they'd be ready to start WW3 to people who started calling Nicki Minaj Jamaican instead of Trinidadian and call them racist but start referring to people as 'Mexican *******' when they're not Mexican lmao

I have a question, Where are the pics over the years of Cardi and her family at TnT Carnival or celebrating independence day??

Visiting back home in Trinidad & Tobago? Celebrating any other holiday in TnT like Divali.

There are none aside from a two pics of her & her sis wearing the flag from 2012/2013.

That in of itself made me question claiming our country as a Trinibagonian. Even when I was broke I always found a way to fly back and visit family.

Percentage who cares? lol

Having some percentage of African Ancestry =/= Being a Black Woman, Black Person, Black man etc.

False equivalences.

The 1 drop rule is reductionist & harmful esp considering the violent colorism/racism Cardi has directed at Black women (calling us roaches, burnt etc) of majority African descent

Stating Cardi & her fam are mixed latinos is accurate. Rather than reducing her to just "Black" its a matter of accuracy to state she is mixed. Furthermore, accurately describing her admixture & discarding the 1 drop rule, doesn't erase the nuances & the lived experiences of Black women of majority African descent impacted by anti-Blackness i.e. Sapphire, Jezebel, Mammy, Masculine stereotypes, - which we know haven't & never will be directed at her

I asked you this in the other post, can you answer this?

The one drop rule is racist, but many of the people you call black in the US is because of it. So if you think Cardi B isn't black then Ice Spice also isn't black and neither is Chris Brown, Mariah Carey, Beyoncé and her mother (and even her nephew Julez), Alicia Keys, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, Halle Berry, Tia and Tamera, and so on. Are these people black or mixed to you, and do you also fight with as much vigour to them saying they're black as you do with Cardi B?

Like I want to hear with a straight face you lot say that adorned black celebrities like Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, and Beyoncé aren't black despite them being mixed too (at least a quarter non-black admixture)

Cardi has #1's singles saying the "N" word so clearly she's BLACK PASSING to everybody except the retarbz

Is Fat Joe black because he says the N word? If saying the N word makes you black then i guess Camila Cabello and Justin Bieber are also black. Cardi grew up in the bronx where everyones says the N word, whether they are black or not.
