I hate that just like the other two singles, it has to "grow on me".

Interesting as, for me, Illusion is the furthest away from the genre. Illusion is the most commercial version of psychedelic in the sense that I barely hear it there - it's a mash of so many influences that the psychedelic influence is lost to me. The out of the chorus on TS has far more Tame Impala vibes in my opinion.

maybe because illusion is the most 2000s house/europop of them all so the genre difference is throwing you off, houdini/ts are more 80s/90s so they are more funk leaning!

I know I shouldn't expect debate to be healthy/undertanding on this platform, but the users who are just blithely ignoring and dismissing the fans who aren't enjoying this era as much are wild to me. Okay, people don't share your opinion, it doesn't make you (or them) right or better, it's just an opinion. We're all allowed them. The pretentiousness is astounding :coffee2:

I do think it's interesting that this single has been as decisive as it is. Where any of her previous eras this mixed?

You're allowed to but you can only say that you hate something so many times before it's just annoying :rip:

The same tired critiques easily get mixed in with the haters and trolls in here too. A few people have posted multiple times with the same opinion every time Dua drops something this era. That's not discussion, it's just repetition.

And you do the same going on and on and on about loving everything she drops this era. What's the difference sis.

People have different opinions. Suck it up. Lol

Because I talk about what I like about every song and what parts I'm enjoying the most, ranking them from fave to least fave, etc.

People coming in here and repeating the same "it's not FN!” "she has no direction!” and parroting the same critiques they always do, is not the same as finding different things to praise about a song every time.

In fact in my post, I pointed out that I have seen fair critiques from people who are actually thinking about what they're posting, even if it's not positive. But people, like you ironically enough, who just say "I'm DONE with the era! She can't do anything right this era!” literally every time she releases something, then for some reason stay perched, are just annoying when others are just trying to enjoy the damn music.

I said she was flopping in the US, which is just a fact this era, it's not personal sis. I also said in the same post how much I love the song, and also said yesterday how much I love the song. Seems like you have a niche for focusing on the negative… maybe because you know it's true?

You strike me as someone who is forcing yourself, for whatever reason, to love everything about this era. I admire the positivity, but get real!

Honestly I hope she's not keeping up with the online "criticism" towards her music in this era... I'm rooting that she keeps doing what she loves and does the best with integrity and consistency, the real ones will stick with her at the end.

This is spectacular.  I don't get how anyone could say this is underwhelming, or boring.  I loved Houdini and Training Season but this blows them out of the water.

Also, I agree with the sentiment that some people are just nitpicking / stanning success.  To me, all three singles sound like a natural progression of Future Nostalgia.  To me they sound similar, but updated, which is a good thing because I loved FN and wouldn't want too far of a departure.  I could understand the boring comments if the singles were like Dance The Night or Sweetest Puke.  Now those are basic.

I love so much that she is making pure, fun dance-pop music.  I feel like she's the only ***** in the game doing so, everyone else is doing artsy alternative singer songwriter stuff, or ~experimental~ house/disco/whatever infused pop.  Dua is like Katy/Rih/Kesha in 2010, just awesome, sleek, refined, quality pop music :clap3:

Let me start off by saying I adore her and Future Nostalgia is my most played album of the decade so far.

If the goal was to make great dance-pop that people can party and vibe to, then she's 3 for 3 this era. Another fantastic track.

But if the goal is to the biggest pop star in the world, I think she needs to switch it up more at this point. Her vocals would suit a big synthy power ballad really well. Something more personal and different that shows she's an all-around entertainer. But I don't think this is a US hit or a WW hit to the magnitude of her past successes.

The way you just posted that people are allowed to have opinions posting yours, but yours is so negative that you believe I'd pretend and force myself to enjoy a song and artist just to argue with strangers on the internet :deadbanana2:

Get real indeed!

I don't think i've been so obsessed with a song in a long time as i've been with Illusion. It's such an earworm. Top 3 in Dua's discography, easily.

It's fun, I like the beat, so...

What I don't like are the lyrics. The songs are always in the vein of "you aren't good enough for me", "I am looking for something deeper" etc. I am not a huge fan of empowerment, cause it's really superficial, but hey, that's a "me-thng".
