Virgos Groove Posted April 12 Posted April 12 Admittedly, I was pretty cold towards the era at first because it didn't fit the exact sonical expectations I had (UKG, dnb, rave), but as it has developed and more songs have come out, I can see exactly what she's going for. The Y2K Ibiza aesthetic, the evolution of FN's sound, the brilliant instrumentation... this is gonna be an EXQUISITE record. 3

Clearly, the idea was to pair up two alternative creators with a mainstream superstar and merge the two worlds into a record that is equal parts artistically daring and commercially serviceable. But it feels like Danny and Kevin kind of got absorbed into Dua's sound and status instead of meeting halfway so we ended up getting Future Nostalgia with a #psychedlic twist. Houdini is the one of the 3 that came closer to striking a balance and that's why it's the best Anyway all 3 songs are solid. 'dini > illu-u-u-u-u-u-uuu > uk raving season I mean it's okay for it to be a bit bland, I'm saying that fully aware of the type of music Danny and Kevin produce for other artists. This doesn't really have anything that would tell me they're attached to the project. Tbh this sounds like something Mark Ronson would produce, and I probably would be less let down if he did produce it. I do like the verses and pre-chorus a lot, but the chorus just sounds comparatively weaker. Houdini is amazing tho
If U Seek Amy Posted April 12 Posted April 12 This one went from my least favorite of the 3 so far to my favorite now. It's the most infectious to me. Love all 3 though. It's not FN but still good

The7thStranger Posted April 12 Posted April 12 This one might need to grow on me. Not as strong as the first two upon first listen, but we all know Dua is about sleeper hits. Still excited for the album.
NoAngelus Posted April 12 Posted April 12 It's my least favorite so far, verses are ok and dance breakdown towards the end is great but chorus screams forgettable filler.
popstickle Posted April 12 Posted April 12 I know I shouldn't expect debate to be healthy/undertanding on this platform, but the users who are just blithely ignoring and dismissing the fans who aren't enjoying this era as much are wild to me. Okay, people don't share your opinion, it doesn't make you (or them) right or better, it's just an opinion. We're all allowed them. The pretentiousness is astounding I do think it's interesting that this single has been as decisive as it is. Where any of her previous eras this mixed? 1

monster_enriquer Posted April 12 Posted April 12 This is not a drag but it sounds like it would belong to her first studio album. Am I the only one who thinks this would go harmoniously with Last Dance/Blow Your Mind/Hotter than hell?

NostalgiawithDua Posted April 12 Posted April 12 Did 346K on partial day (2 hours), looking for a cute 3-3.5M debut easily!
Universo Posted April 12 Posted April 12 this song is not bad at all... but i find it a little bit forgettable tbh 1
Virgos Groove Posted April 12 Posted April 12 Idk how to explain it, but this song is like if Robyn's Honey took a double shot of espresso 1

DuaStan Posted April 12 Posted April 12 @popmusic Do you have any official prediction for the first full day?

Illusion is the most commercial version of psychedelic in the sense that I barely hear it there - it's a mash of so many influences that the psychedelic influence is lost to me. The out of the chorus on TS has far more Tame Impala vibes in my opinion.
