FN was too clean and funky, it was fresh in 2020 but everyone done it a hundred times since then including herself.

Question is what are the absolute numbers for iTunes or Apple Music? Anyone know?

I was under the impression that Apple Music was reasonably significant in the USA but not in the U.K. for instance. Not much joy being high up a chart that has low absolute numbers in the way that No1 on Spotify in Latvia is not like being No1 on Spotify in France for example. And don't get me started on longevity. I suspect Spotify swamps both these charts these days anyway.

The rush of some ( not referring to you) on ATRL to concoct instant dubious stats to prove "my fave is better than your fave" is beyond parody.

Patience people, patience.

iTunes sales charts are absolutely not important, nobody is buying tracks anymore, it takes just 460 sales to be no.1 in UK (population 66mil) and just 3500 sales to be no.1 in US (330 mil)

UK:

RANK ARTIST TITLE SALES
1 Perrie Forget About Us 462
2 Teddy Swims Lose Control 308
3 Benson Boone Beautiful Things 244
4 Beyoncé TEXAS HOLD 'EM 206
5 Dua Lipa Illusion 181

USA:

RANK ARTIST TITLE SALES
1 Hozier Too Sweet 3504
2 Benson Boone Beautiful Things 2296
3 Shaboozey A Bar Song (Tipsy) 1792
4 Teddy Swims Lose Control 1504
5 Sabrina Carpenter Espresso 1313
6 GloRilla & Megan Thee Stallion Wanna Be 1175
7 Perrie Forget About Us 1069
8 Jelly Roll Halfway To Hell 986
9 Dasha Austin 917
10 Beyoncé TEXAS HOLD 'EM 860
11 Jelly Roll Need a Favor 812
12 Dua Lipa Illusion 770

In a huge country like Brazil it takes only 24 sales to be no.1

RANK ARTIST TITLE SALES
1 Sabrina Carpenter Espresso 23
2 Perrie Forget About Us 15
3 Stray Kids WHY? 11
4 Dua Lipa Illusion 10
5 Racionais MC's Sou + Você

Because various folk out on the dashboard are running threads showing " oo x is above y on iTunes isn't she great". I just wanted confirmation that it's like being top of the streaming charts on Rockall!😁

Muffy sis...the revisionism. Don't Start Now and Levitating both took months to reach #2 on the Hot 100. Break My Heart did well on radio but it didn't go Top 10. Cold Heart and Dance The Night also took ages to reach their final peaks. I'm not saying that this era's hits are bigger, but she's doing fine and there's no need for this kind of fear-mongering. For some reason stans have convinced themselves that Dua is on Ariana's level in the US or something? and the discussion surrounding her performance in the country is usually loaded with bad faith. Performances might sound useless to most girls but they do actually work for Dua and we've barely had any this era. Meanwhile she was jumping between the EMAs, SNL, The Voice, Ellen, The Tonight Show, the AMAs, on Dick Clarks New Years Rockin Eve, Good Morning America, and eery single stage on earth for Dont Start Now and Levitating. The biggest push this era got so far in the US was the Grammys performance and that resulted in Houdini's dance break going viral and the song getting a significant boost in streams.

Also to say that "literally nobody seems to care" about her this time is pure delusion. The gays are still gagging. Yes, Future Nostalgia was a bigger event in gay culture with the pandemic and everything going on, but that's what a peak era is. And the gays are STILL here, even if they're complaining about Radical Optimism not being like Future Nostalgia or being too much like Future Nostalgia!!!. Musically, she is obviously underperforming compared to her previous era, but Dua herself is much bigger than she was in 2019-2020. We'll see how the tour does but I'm pretty sure many of you will be switching the tone next year.

Say it louder for the girls in the back. The conflicting opinions for Dua and RO are wild this era. That's why I said maybe she's just not for you? Idk. She's not really doing anything wrong, the music is objectively good, she's improved as a performer, the music isn't exactly groundbreaking for her but there's definitely still growth in exploring sounds that are different but not so different that it's hard to digest.

I truly think if Houdini/Training Season/Illusion and DSN/FN/Physical switched when they were released, people would probably drag her anyways— assuming RO had the same success as FN if released in 2020. It's just such a hard standard to live up to, not every era can be a monumental mega success like FN, unless you're Taylor Swift :rip: The arguments don't make sense in general so it's got to be about success like others mentioned already.

I have seen some fair criticisms about RO in general, I don't necessarily agree but at least they make sense. Anything revolving around FN is generally nonsense :rip:

Perhaps we have the best song of 2024 (thus far) on our hands with this one?

I literally can't get enough of this bop. It's so addictive and infectious in such an understated way. The groove in the chorus just gets me, I fear:gayoncecat2:

Okay……. (TS debuted with 120K and did 4.3M, whereas Houdini debuted with 135K and 5.4M)

Totally agreed. The music is slightly better this time for me. And it's fine if they're not clicking for you, but Dua has clearly has found her lane and she's a dance-pop artist at her core. Expecting something left field or some drastic sonic change so soon after FN and this early in her career was delulu (I might have set myself up a bit with the psychedelic expectations after her interviews, but the elements and Kevin's marks are still there). Radical Optimism is shaping up to be a perfect sonic evolution without sounding too detached from FN. I'm very excited to see where she goes from her tbh.

The criticism should be directed towards the way they've been handling the era so far. I get that she doesn't want to be performing everywhere like she did with FN's singles, but the way she's been going to late night shows nonstop and repeating the same **** was so ?????? And wasting a good chunk of her appearances on Dance The Oscar Nom Away mid-era was so unserious and made Houdini look like an afterthought

She's lucky the music slaps and she's 3/3 for me or I'd be writing dissertations about how terrible the era has been
