prettyinpink940 Posted March 30 Posted March 30 Most people consider Ray of Light the creative peak of Madonna's career. Taylor is now 18 years into her career, at what point Madonna had just released Music. Do you think Taylor has released her Ray of Light yet? Is TTPD gonna be it?
Popular Post Virgos Groove Posted March 30 Popular Post Posted March 30 (edited) Folklore was her Ray of Light, in the sense that it elevated her to a whole different level and revealed new aspects of her artistry to the GP. If we're specifically talking about ROL's sound (electronica, DnB, rave, ambient), she hasn't... Spoiler ...but ATRL user Virgos Groove can always dream! Edited March 30 by Virgos Groove 19
JohnWayneHolland Posted March 30 Posted March 30 Taylor doesn't have what it takes to write a "Mer Girl", so no. 5 1
Jjang Posted March 30 Posted March 30 I mean I don't think she has any album as unique sounding as ROL but in terms of releasing an album that elevates people's perception of you; I'd say she did that with Folklore. There's a pre- and post- Folklore Taylor in terms of the level of respect she's discussed in. Kinda like pre- and post- Like a Prayer Madonna.
shyboi Posted March 30 Posted March 30 I don't think Taylor would ever go that route, if you mean it in the most literal way she stays on her lane
NEX Posted March 30 Posted March 30 Ray of Light was an album deeply inspired by Madonna's motherhood. Taylor is not at that stage of her life yet. Also, let's not forget that Madonna was already in her 40s by the time it was released. Folklore somewhat fits the bill career trajectory wise, but I feel Taylor's truly introspective album is yet to come. 3
Sheep Posted March 30 Posted March 30 Taylor has never come close to a ROL, she's not incapable of one tho.
Solaria Posted March 30 Posted March 30 Yes, and it's Folklore. Evermore is her Music and Midnights is her Reinvention (2004) era

It hasn't come thematically but it has career wise. I anticipate it after she becomes a mother (if she chooses to/wants to), like others have said. 1
Blackout2006 Posted March 30 Posted March 30 (edited) 'Folklore' brought Taylor's artistic identity to the forefront and completely rejuvenated her image in front of the GP at a time when it felt she was on her way out ('Reputation' and 'Lover' were considered underperformances for their time). Next thing you know, she is one of the most critically acclaimed and revered artists of this generation and this paved the way for the colossal success of 'Midnights'. 'Folklore' actually saved Taylor's career and I'll always stand by that. Had she just gone with another pop album, her career would have never been propelled to greater heights. The same case can be made for Madonna. It was her biggest era from that decade and reestablished her relevancy in a pool of hip and contemporary teenage pop artists and hip-hop stars sans BSB, Britney, Tupac, etc. Both these eras were crucial for their respective artists. So I definitely would consider Folklore her own ROL. However, 'Folklore' definitely does not stand anywhere near 'Ray of Light' in quality, but it is still one of Taylor's finest efforts to date. That's one album of hers that I can understand the love for. Edited March 30 by Blackout2006
My Tears Ricochet Posted March 30 Posted March 30 After MIDnight comes a ray of light. So TTPD will be it
Virgos Groove Posted March 30 Posted March 30 Need her to get with the program, lock Jack in a basement, and give us Evermore's true successor (we don't acknowledge Mixtape-nights)
The7thStranger Posted March 30 Posted March 30 I don't really see Taylor as that kind of a songwriter.
RandomHooker Posted March 30 Posted March 30 Too palatable and boring. Her only influence is her love life, feuds and ex boyfriends. So no. 1

pisuke Posted March 30 Posted March 30 She still needs to release her Hey You first before aiming for her ROL.
