Why does the GP favor Britney musically more than Katy musically?

They both make similar campy pop music but Britney's albums are better critically recieved than Katy's.

Despite being released near each other: Femme Fatale has the same producers got a better score than Teenage Dream

Femme Fatale on metascore: 67%

Teenage Dream on metascore: 52%

Britney's last album was 8 years ago and she's still being compared to everyone and their mothers every other day here. phew, guess she's just too relevant :clap3:

Because Britney has iconic songs favoured by the GP

BOMT

OIDIA

Toxic

Gimme More

Katy has none I'm afraid and was only listened by kids. No adult would listen to a KP song today :ryan3:

Britney is more edgy, sexy, adult like.

Katy is more campy, silly, high school anthem like.

Certain artists are in some way revolutionary and their very presence awakens something that ripples out and resonates in the pop culture zeitgeist.

Britney's emergence was controversial, society did not immediately know how to process her presence. it was risqué for her to be so comfortable end expressive with her sexuality in media prior to the age of 21.

Katy is a talented and popular artist but she is not unique enough to be a generation defining artist whose emergence represents a new chapter in the all-time spiritual almanac of pop culture.

The GP are not thinking of Britney Spears in the year 2024 :rip:

Tbh, neither were particularly critically acclaimed.

Granted, it's mostly a product of the pre-poptimism era where Straights who were still worshipping old school Rock bands and Indie/Alternative acts were the biggest gatekeepers of music.

But Britney put out more albums and didn't have a falloff as dramatic as Katy's(In 2013, Britney was already a veteran) so it's a given that Britney would generally have more appeal with general audiences even though Katy's singles still very much resonate with a large sector of the general public.

Why not put Debut year and last released album?

Shall we compare album sales tho, Miss KatyPrismSpirit?

One has 4 Yellow Metacritic Scores, 1 green ones - during the Poptimism mind you

The other has 2 Yellow MC Scores, 6 green ones

some of yall really only see black & white

ot: As some users said,

Britney is the reason we have someone like Katy

+Katy is much more childish

ATRL loves using the "McDonalds of Pop" for Taylor, but Katy truly fits that name

since she is mostly the one making easily digestible-sugary songs

Well, she for sure didn't work with Max Martin, or relied on Dr Luke for a hit :fan:

be honest, who has more variety in their discography?

In what alternate universe is Britney not panned as an artist? No one with a serious mindset allows themselves to say with a straight face that Britney is an artist.

1. The GP doesn't determine those scores in the OP, it's from music critics. That alone invalidates this thread

2. Katy has out streamed Britney on every platform since their inception. Again, invalidated

And I'm saying this as a Liddo who regularly mangles Katy. This thread couldn't be more inaccurate or stuck in 1999
