What vh1 show was this?

She wasn't wrong at all. Nicole has always gotten the a tonne of unnecessary hate. PCD would have been nothing without her.

Let's be real, she was the only one could actually sing. Melody was cute as well but she was all over the place vocally.

I never understood why fans wanted the other girls to sing more during their brief reunion. Out of Nicole and Melody, none of the other girls would be able to back it up live.

Melody, Carmit and Jessica could sing pretty well. Ashley could hold a tune a bit. The other blond chick with they ugly short hair who lifted her leg couldn't sing imo

Does she know what she is saying? She obviously knew how the group was going to work when she signed her contract. Not to mention Melody could actually sing and they never let her sing any songs on the debut album. She tried SOOOO hard to make sure that everyone knew the other girls werent singing. My god shes ridiculous. :ace:

She would have gotten the JLo treatment if people cared enough about her.

Is this a joke? Melody could sing. If Nicole left they should have just made Melody the lead and kept it moving. Do you really think she couldnt sing songs like Bottle Pop or Dontcha? :ahh:

She was in a tough situation. There's no winning for her cause people will always flip to make her as the villain when she was just doing her job like the rest of the girls. being a woman of color as that doesn't help her cause either.

Nicole pretty much was the Pussycat Dolls, it bewilders me how that translated to pretty much zero success outside of the UK with her solo career

She was just being honest. We all knew other girls had 0 input/relation with album. They were background dancers, and they knew what they singed up for

lol I don't think a lot of people realize that The Pussycat Dolls are initially a Burlesque dance troupe from Los Angeles. They did cabaret and you can hear those roots on that first album. Most of the girls in the group were already dancing professionally or were already in the troupe (Carmit had been in it since 1995!) long before Nicole was hired to turn them into a pop music group.

This! Nicole may struggle with coming across as a likable pop star, but it's not her fault Robin Antin and Ron Fair only wanted Nicole to be the one to sing while occasionally throwing Melody and Carmit a bone in allowing them to add a few ad-libs and background vocals.

Look either way PCD was successful but I don't understand why they couldn't had been a girl group where they all sing.

Of course Nicole was gonna be the center of the group but in pop music history it is so weird that it clearly was Nicole + her back up dancers

I know Melody did get to sing but the whole dynamic was so off.

No it's not. Melody would never have made a good front woman for the dolls. She's the 2nd best vocalist the group but Nicole runs circles around her vocally. Sure Nicole never made the solo career she dreamed of, but she was by far the star of the group.

Melody was also the weakest dancer. They would have definitely not been able to keep it moving if they used her lol. :coffee2:

That's a cute performance you posted though.

too bad her solo career didn't land at all. had she kept the PCD name and changed line-ups all the time like Sugababes she would have had more hits to perform

Right.

The irony is that, imo, this is why her solo career never took off.  Why do we need solo music, when she was already solo while in the group? :celestial5:

Not to mention the group had better A&R, so the quality was better than her solo stuff.

So in the end, it came back to bite.

But she still worked out a wonderful solo career for herself regardless (TV, musicals, etc).  And she is super talented + beautiful…so I can't be too mad at her ambition.

I just would've played my cards differently if I were in her position.   But oh well…
