Kiss It Better Posted March 18 Posted March 18 if anything, they should stop worrying about the numbers and more about the quality of the music itself take Mariah for example, she's not doing numbers as she used to, but Caution was one of her most acclaimed album and it's better than some of the albums she released during her prime 1

It was actually an extremely smart business decision to leverage her acting career; even though the music completely bombed she still made money from the project as a whole 3

The7thStranger Posted March 18 Posted March 18 Only if they have something to say or can maintain a certain level of quality. Otherwise, it's likely a pointless endeavor and an exercise in artistic masturbation. Jennifer, for example, put a lot of heart into that last record, and it's not terrible by any means.

Assuming the movie also bombed (which I could be very wrong about), Amazon or any other potential investor will be extremely reluctant to buy her next projects since they won't make their money back.
schnetzka Posted March 18 Posted March 18 When artists reach a certain point in their career, they start releasing albums because they want to, not because they have to. It's not always about money and touring. Sometimes, it's just because they love what they do and want to share that with the world and their fans. 1
BnPac Posted March 18 Posted March 18 Music is a passion, making new songs is a form of expression for artists who love art and their craft. An article by a musical critic telling artists to stop releasing is wrong on so many levels. 1
shimind Posted March 18 Posted March 18 they should still release music. But focus on 10-11 songs per album with quality material instead of unnecessary 15+ long albums

Aint your mama was a hit in some countries yes but not exactly a global hit. It was successful in some countries like Germany and France but in most other major markets it wasn't too successful. Overall it was a regional hit. It's streams are decent for an pre-streaming era artist (469m) but not a smash. Major markets: US - #76 UK - #182 Germany - #5 France - #11 Australia - #85 Korea - #97 Netherlands - #9 Spain - #5 Edited March 18 by SoundsandSongs
