Since when was Ariana one of the greatest performers to come out of pop music? :deadbanana2:

Both J.Lo and JT are much better performers.

Who is funding the hate campaign against these two? :deadbanana4:

And where can I donate to the cause?

Why is a 30 year old in this conversation? :deadbanana2: at first I thought maybe it was some gen z journalist who doesn’t have a realistic concept of age but I looked him up and he’s definitely older… girl these people do not understand pop music, get them out of here. I can name 10 people on this site off the top of my head who would be better writers on these topics than the hacks they have publishing articles :deadbanana2:

Jem Aswad, the writer of this article, is one of those pop girl obsessed millenial gay men masquerading as a legitimate critic. Don’t take it so seriously. He’s basically an “elder” ATRL member.

This is not from Variety, the actual trade magazine. It’s the online version. Like the website version of Forbes, it’s been taken over by aging, chronically online gay men obsessed with pop girls, not actual critics .

I don’t disagree but he’s definitely not a millennial :rip:

he’s gen X, I did some digging and he’s been a freelance writer since 1992

Jlegend has two of the biggest movies globally right now, a critically acclaimed documentary, her highest acclaimed album yet according to Metacritic, and a number one on a billboard chart based on album sales.  The musical film is supposed to be "self-absorbed" because it is a tale of learning how to love yourself, it isn't mainly about her reuniting with Affleck. If you disagree, watch the movie again. The purpose of a movie was for her to tell that story visually and provide an experience for her own fans as a gift besides the new album she released. To conclude, JLO isn't aging badly in 2024, but I can't say the same thing about that other man.

I don’t think it’s that deep. Things happen, people change, situations change, generations change… some people make a seamless transition, others don’t and get left behind. It is what it is and been happening in pop music since the beginning of time.

All facts. Everyone ain't meant to transcend generations. Some are even okay with only being "a thing" within their own generation.

Putting Ariana in here is WILD

the article just reinforces ageism tbh

What can you really expect from a publication that predicted a Maestro sweep this past awards season :rip:

It's ONE person's opinion. One. :foxaylove3:

Variety is not a vendetta against JLo dragging the film, mocking the cancelled dates and now this, also what kind of article was that it dragged almost the whole music industry (funny how he ignored Taylor, Lana, Nicki or Beyoncé).

Not him bringing Ariana to this mess.

madonna is called a grandma for 3 whole decades and atrl celebrates. justin timberlake is called aging once and atrl has an asthma attack, calls an ambulance, calls the police, gets the FBI involved... :deadbanana:

It's sad what music journalism has come to. Some shady, stan twitter article full of ageist, dismissive remarks about any artist that aspires to growth and doesn't just stand there and play the hits. And this author posting "I went in" on his twitter. Anything for engagement, I guess.

The author is getting his ass dragged on X

Even the “I did it with love, but I went in”. Which “journalist” talks like that. He’s bringing Stan Twitter towards industry trades :rip:

I think Madonna Janet and Britney are the only ones aging badly but I don't wrote for variety so I don't get a thread. I guess whoever opinion is more important because someone  somewhere said so?
