Why didn't Katy's Roar face the same controversy that Born This Way faced?

Both sounded the same as Brave and Express Yourself, but Born This Way sounding like Express Yourself was a bigger deal than Roar/Brave.

Gays are more hated than tigers

For the same reason the GP scattered when Witness came out. No one was invested in Katy like that. The stakes were so low and the GP just wanted something to bop to. Gaga was considered an industry disrupter and held to a completely different standard.

Sara Bareilles embraced the similarities and the comparisons rejuvenated interest in her song.

the madonna v. gaga comparisons didn't start (nor did they end) with born this way. plus madonna is way more publicly known & respected compared to sara bareilles (:skull:).

Because Gaga intimidated a lot of people and they used the Madonna comparisons to tear her down. Tons of songs that sound similar to other songs never received the same amount of backlash.

because Sara is a sweetheart and never said anything bad about the comparisons.

No offense to her but I don't think Sara Bareilles has the same power as Madonna does

As for the BTW controversy, that was flew over super quickly (outside of the Madonna fanbase, who are still bitter over a decade later lmao)

Because Sara Bareilles isn’t a MPG and didn’t actually lose out on anything (commercially, or in terms of perception of her art).

When asked about the controversy on ABC News Radio a few days later, Bareilles mentioned they are friends, and that the accusations, "…[put] this negative spin on two artists that are choosing to share positive messages," adding, "If I'm not mad I don't know why anybody else is upset."

Bareilles did, however, acknowledge the similarity of Perry's song to her own,[23] a sentiment she repeated in a 2014 interview with CBS Sunday Morning reporter Ben Tracy: "I mean I can't say that I think that they don't sound similar …[but] it's only really good for my song. So, thank you, Katy Perry for that."[24]

In direct response to the attention "Brave" received following the plagiarism accusations, Epic Recordspromoted "Brave" to the mainstream pop radio format.

Sara acknowledged the comparisons and denounced the hatred that Katy was receiving. She did not drag her or give her any grief.

Meanwhile, Madonna shaded Gaga on national TV with the infamous "look it up" interview on GMA/ABC.

I’ll have to agree with this. No one really cared outside about the comparisons outside of the forums.

Lady Gaga vs. Madonna had already been an ongoing conversation between stans and even the GP

This is just not true. Major news outlets like HLN reported on the BTW/EY comparisons.

Because it couldn’t be weaponized for a Stan war.

Cause Sara's song was kinda unknown, unlike Express Yourself.

None of this is the reason. Sara did not take offense to the similarities and is also lesser known without a fanbase. Nothing to do with investment into the artists.

You wish! Katy herself got ripped off of Birthday with Sugar and no one batted an eyelash. Love her but people were not checking for her like that, for better or worse.

The question has an obvious answer that you can reach if you spent 2 seconds thinking about it, but this being a Josh thread checks out. :penguin:

that mashup is so damning :rip:

She did, we lived it in real time. Sara however took it in stride and her song found a ton of success thanks to people hearing about it. I LOVE that song because of Roar actually, thats how music should work when its NOT intentional like with Gaga towards Madonna.
