DTF Posted March 14 Posted March 14 Coming off of two of the most streamed albums of all time back to back to back to back massive culture smashes Don’t start now-Levitating-Cold Heart-Dance the night, she had all the hype for her new era Now that it’s almost April it’s clear that neither Houdini nor Training Season are clicking Why? Popular Post cat1867 Posted March 14 Popular Post Posted March 14 Didn’t atrl just make this mistake with Ariana? Dua simply hasn’t released a single this rollout that clicked with people. If her album is good with a proper banger, salty atrlers will be miserable again. 16
Popular Post Rico Shameless v2 Posted March 14 Popular Post Posted March 14 Global 200 - current #18 Training Season #22 Houdini Excl. US #16 Training Season #18 Houdini I feel like the songs are doing fine/great. Especially Houdini since it's been out since October/November now. And it's kind of crazy because Levitating, DSN, Dance the Night all also got criticism here for not doing well enough.. but now they're used to judge these singles. 14 8 1
GraceRandolph Posted March 14 Posted March 14 Honestly these newer stars just don’t have the fervent fan bases of past pop stars. I’m sure she can still get smashes in the future, but she’s always struck me as more of a Rihanna than a Taylor, someone who needs the right trend or right moment to really make a smash and gets hits in the long run rather than immediate smashes. I also don’t think her identity is super well defined tbh. 5 1 1
Popular Post Relampago. What should they do now? Touch grass? Remain perched on Dua’s IG and ATRL threads? Who knows! 3 5 14
Bencharmer Posted March 14 Posted March 14 She will drop a collab that will give her moderate hit song for the summer A collab with another girl.
moondust Posted March 14 Posted March 14 Haven't her singles always been slow but steady cookers? The crockpot of pop if you will. I don't think she needs to 'do' anything but what she's been doing. 2 3 2
PerfectCure Posted March 14 Posted March 14 (edited) Considering she could retire and live a comfortably rich life off the royalties from her first two albums, I don’t think anything went wrong. You guys need to understand that studying the downfall of a female pop singer does not work with every female pop singer Edited March 14 by PerfectCure

zach Posted March 14 Posted March 14 Literally NOTHING? What are you even talking about? Are we living in the same universe right now?
Shimenawa Posted March 14 Posted March 14 She doesn't have a real fanbase and her hits needed a lot of payola. I think she is akin to Katy Perry, but Katy was more famous and successful. 1 1
SlowGinFizzzz Posted March 14 Posted March 14 ODHs never beating the ugly, jobless and terminally online allegations. 2
4th Time Around Posted March 14 Posted March 14 I feel like I see another one of these irrelevant threads every time I come on ATRL 1
PoisonPill Posted March 14 Posted March 14 Nothing? Two moderately underperforming hits are the death knell of a hugely successful career, is that the new bar we’re using?

Into The Void Posted March 14 Posted March 14 Nothing. Both get around 3m streams daily. Just because they are underperforming in the USA doesn't make them flops cause people are streaming.

Bubble Tea Posted March 14 Posted March 14 ATRL has long been overly obsessed with "under performances" and "missteps." Even though the holy Taylor Swift was "flopping" with reputa and Lover, and it was hardly an omen for the future. Likewise with ARTPOP, queen came back with #1s from two different albums. All is fine. Beyonce too. Careers go up and down, it's not a tell this early on.
