It contains an artificial sweetener called aspartame which was passed by the FDA for usage under notoriously dubious circumstances. Aspartame also breaks through something called the blood/ brain barrier and is linked to increased risk of brain cancer. I have avoided all beverages containing aspartame for the aforementioned reasons for decades. That 2006 study that started all this misinformation is very dodgy, the rats received doses equivalent to a human consuming over 26 sodas a day, way about what the FDA considers a safe intake, the rats were diagnosed posthumously. Other experts contested the findings. They argued that what the team identified as tumors might actually be inflammation or signs of bacterial infection in the rats, not cancer. Also humans aren't rodents, In response to the 2006 rat study, the American Association of Cancer Research conducted a longitudinal study on adults. And found no correlation between aspartame consumption and cancer risk in humans. WHO evaluates carcinogens based on their specific properties and potential harm. They have several groups: Group 1: Definite carcinogens—no doubt about it. They cause cancer in humans. Think plutonium (inhale a microgram, get cancer). Group 2A: Probable carcinogens—strong evidence but not 100% conclusive. Smoking and alcohol hang out here. Group 2B: Aspartame is here. It’s a “possible carcinogen” based on limited evidence. Where research suggests a likely link to cancer but isn’t ironclad : humans aren’t rats. We need longitudinal studies to understand real-world effects. 8

However (like weed) sugar grows out the ground. I’d rather take that than satiate my sweet tooth with a cocktail of manmade chemicals 🤷🏼♀️ 1

My point is that whether or not something grows out of the ground is not a good barometer for deciding if something is better for the body. Just because sugar is natural and aspartame is not does not make the former safer than the latter, especially with how much we know about how damaging sugar is to health. 1

It’s your choice as a human to believe that a substance that’s grown freely in nature for millennia (that may cause diabetes when eaten to excess), is less safe than a chemical process developed by big pharma in the last half century.
sweetkiss Posted March 5 Posted March 5 i just drink water, green tea and black coffee i never tasted coke so i have no idea, but based on ingredients its a NO from me honey 1

GentleDance Posted March 5 Posted March 5 5 minutes ago, sweetkiss said: girl it can spike your blood sugar and you can have diabetes, aspartame is 200 sweeter than sugar, imagine being safer if you eat spoon of sugar than diet coke ew sweetness ≠ sugar Quote Aspartame is 200 times sweeter than sugar and has a negligible effect on blood glucose levels, and it is suggested for use so that T2D can control carbohydrate intake and blood glucose levels. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/28571543/ Quote Aspartame is rapidly hydrolyzed in the small intestine by digestive enzymes which break aspartame down into methanol, phenylalanine, aspartic acid, and further metabolites, such as formaldehyde and formic acid. Due to its rapid and complete metabolism, aspartame is not found in circulating blood, even following ingestion of high doses over 200 mg/kg. Methanol is present in most fruits, Phenylalanine and Aspartic acid are essential amino acids 5

Mellark Posted March 6 Posted March 6 I've been drinking it recently and added one of the lime packets and I understand it. I am trying to avoid sugar as much, so I get why the girlies go crazy over it. I prefer the Caffeine free version. 20 hours ago, Dante Silva said: It’s not. I have avoided all beverages containing aspartame for the aforementioned reasons for decades. There have been many studies from the WHO that classify aspartame as 2B, with limited evidence of cancer in humans. Now for things such as red meat, there is a higher cancer risk. However, the WHO did conduct a study on mice with 5x the aspartame and there was an effect.
