I saw my dermatologist she did blood tests and it turns out I’m not balding, I just have an iron deficiency from my eating disorder :ryan3: so false alarm, ya’ll! I’m just mentally ill. Eat your leafy greens!

Minoxidil! Hands down. It's the only proven treatment (besides a hair transplant obviously).

I'm afraid there's nothing we can do. A barber has been dispatched to your property and will commence shaving. Enjoy the rest of your life, chrome dome

I heard a derma roller + rogaine works well. The blades for the derma roller have to be larger.
Also a prescription for  finasteride 1 mg should help slow/stop the thinning.

Dermarolling and rosemarin oil can help. First I recommend making your hair wet you can see the empty spots in your head where you can dermaroller for about 10 minutes then apply the oil. The oil should be  bought mixed/refined for use or else if it's pure Rosemary oil then you should mix it yourself with water. This works only for early phase of your hair thinning.

Finasteride and Minoxidil are more effective but they have side effects.

Do you suggest I get a consultation with a deem before trying minoxidil? And then do I just buy a hair roller, use it to open the hair follicles and then rub the oil in immediately after? Thank you for the advice.

I started losing my hair at 19 and kind of gave up on it, just told myself I'll accept that I'll be bald soon. Last year I turned 24 and I still hadn't lost my hair, just a growing bald spot in the back and a weak hairline. My friend was like hey get minoxidil, try to save your hair. I didn't want to put any money and effort but I was like you know what let me just try it's not that expensive. So I started spraying minox twice a day in October, and in December after doing additional research I added a 1 mg pill of finasteride every night. I kind of kept doing it out of habit and forgot about it... until one day in February I noticed my bald spot was practically a tiny fraction of the size it used to be. And then I looked closer and noticed the hair on my temples growing back, I couldn't remember the last time I saw hair there. I'm genuinely shocked by the results, it's boosted my confidence a lot.

So do some research (the r/tressless subreddit really helped), get on minoxidil and finasteride, be consistent and patient (don't expect any results before 4-6 months), and hopefully you'll be fine!

Those 2 are the main methods to regrow your hair, but there's also evidence that derma rolling, ketokenazole, and rosemary oil may be beneficial. You can add them down the line once you establish the habit.

Thank you sm for the comprehensive explanation. Do I need to be prescribed minoxidil and finasteride or did you get them elsewhere without prescription? Do you think a consultation with a dermatologist would be worth the money?

It’s over the counter. Costco has good prices. There is foam and a serum. The serum made my head itch though so I switched to the foam.

From what I have heard minoxidil works for some months then your hair starts falling back so you essentially will need to use finasteride for a longer effect when this starts happening.

Now I have taken some pills which are much weaker than finasteride and they were giving morning anxiety and heartbeats. However I am very sensitive to drugs like coffee or energy drinks so it could be just me. But finasteride is much stronger than the pills I took so that should be taken way more serious.

Derma roll you hair first alone then wait for some minutes preferably 20-30 minutes and then apply the oil, you can check YT videos and see how it is done. But it wont make a drastic change however it will help.

The biggest and best thing you can do is get on finasteride NOW. I’ve been on it almost a year and it’s been a whirlwind (you will shed a LOT of hair, think its getting worse, but trust the process) then it eventually grows back better. Combine with minoxidil for quicker results (minoxidil alone won’t stop anything on its own though).

As for the side effects, they were minimal for me and only lasted a few weeks until things stabilised. Don’t adhere to any fear mongering online.

But yes, finasteride will save you sis the earlier you start the better!

Yep. Hims is good; if you use the foam + their daily pill together, and keep at it, it will at the bare minimum cease the thinning/losing, but most likely also help it grow back.

Be careful with finasteride, when I started using it I had the worst pain in my balls after 3 days :rip:

Minoxidil 5% twice a day (for 1 year) + 0.5 mg dutasteride (3 times a week)

After 1 year Minoxidil once at night, and keep the dutasteride.

Thank me later

But seriously, before anything else you need to do blood tests to see if there are any underlying medical conditions that might cause your hair loss (and maybe even your mental state as well). Things like unbalanced levels of the thyroid hormone, testosterone, certain vitamins, etc. can all contribute to both hair loss AND deterioration in mental health. Just talk to your doctor, they'll refer you to whatever tests might be needed to check.

After that, and everything is okay, then... sorry sis. It's either meds, whatever ~home remedies~ that actually work, or just embrace your new Megamind serve.

Personally, I haven't experienced any serious (imo) medical side effects from Finasteride. Saying "imo" because a significantly lower libido is nothing new to me :rip: but it might be very important for you. Of course, each person might react differently to the drug, but a drop in your sexual appetite would not be unusual. A dermatologist would be more helpful than anyone here could be when it comes to hair loss related drugs, so if your blood tests come back normal just talk to one.

Just a tip: some doctors are a bit dum dum and would not test you for things that a dermatologist would normally test you for to see if there are any underlying medical conditions. In that case, insist on having your testosterone and thyroid hormone levels checked (and maybe do some Googling on what dermatologists might look for in blood tests for hair loss). Don't let them steamroll you into not doing it because they're too lazy to do their job or any other sus reasons. Having your blood tests ready by the time you're at the dermatologist would save you a visit or two (maybe even more). Don't let them waste your time or make the process long, because if it turns out that you need to take meds like Finasteride then that time would be NOW.

Thankfully I've got a lot going for me looks-wise that doesn't involve my hair (and even that's still thick currently). But I can imagine if that wasn't the case, as I know it is for you, I'd do exactly as you suggest! :suburban:
