Tropez Posted March 2 Posted March 2 There’s an idea going around that we have reached the point where over half the internet is bots, and AI generating webpages. Like you could be on YouTube and comments could be bots but you wouldn’t know. Or all the bots on Twitter and instagram right now. Reddit also has an issue with bots reposting threads. AI images are taking over Google image search, even some websites are clearly AI generated when you do a web search. It’s called the Dead Internet Theory
Trent W Posted March 2 Posted March 2 Not at all But it might happen in the next 5 years unless there are some serious measures Honestly we might reach a point were only celeb/verified accounts will be sure 100% real people. But who knows the government might have access to AI since the 00s and we might have a lot more bot than we think, even in this forum
Sheep Posted March 2 Posted March 2 (edited) No. Reddit just signed a $60m per year non-exclusive license to use their data to train Google(?)'s ai projects. Twitter is always at the center of these theories as well and is trying to break into the ai space because enough of their content is human-generated to be a significant advantage over larger tech companies without free access to such a large data set. Humans will always create spaces to interact with each other and those spaces will continue to be dominated largely by humans. Edited March 2 by Sheep
mercurialworld Posted March 2 Posted March 2 I was actually thinking about this earlier today. It does make me question the authenticity of a lot of the content we see on the internet. It's definitely gotten out of hand and I wouldn't know what the solution is. It's a very interesting, but concerning, topic to think about. 2
waterslide Posted March 2 Posted March 2 the bots are actually everywhere and it's one of the most annoying parts of the internet 2

I’m looking at a tweet and like three verified profiles tweeted the same thing. Then you have the accounts that tweets viral videos, fun facts, etc. And all the replies are bots tweeting things that have nothing to do with the tweet, a lot of it clearly ChatGPT generated prompts.
ohwow Posted March 2 Posted March 2 (edited) yes rich ppl use bots to influence a consensus over a certain thing because im sure there's some data study that shows if all the comments are swinging a particular way that most ppl will just be sheep and follow with the general consensus rather than challenge it Edited March 2 by ohwow 2
dawnettakins Posted March 2 Posted March 2 (edited) Maybe we're all just bots (in the machine)? Inb4 The Matrix confirmed Edited March 2 by dawnettakins

Well they wouldn't be investing millions to train ai on ai. Clearly it's statistically insignificant.
Tropez Posted March 2 Author Posted March 2 Looks like even Spotify is having AI content. Someone is adding generated music on there getting tons of streams. https://www.honest-broker.com/p/spotify-gives-49-different-names
Suilen Posted March 2 Posted March 2 Twitter does feel that way, which is ironic considering Musk's promises. But I guess they don't care if it's real people or bots driving up engagement, so it will get worse.
brokee Posted March 2 Posted March 2 Not fully yet. but there is a chance you never know. while there is a presence of bots in every platform to some degree when it comes to Twitter it's noticeable. like the replies under the tweets that have nothing to do with the original tweet and the same tweet repeated by many accounts. I wouldn't be surprised if those tweet views are fake too. that site is dead for real and some of them fighting with f****** bots.
vale9001 Posted March 2 Posted March 2 I read an article a couple of days ago explaining 60% of the posts the average video users see in Its timeline are now "fake". This means It's not some people opinion about something but someone giving "news" with a support of data are not real, verified etc... Also near to 20% of the entire flood of Twitter are AI generated fake news- tweets. Going from 5 to 20% in less than 12 months. So could reach like 50% in an year or something Twitter is really dead. We have like 2 years left with that, then it's gonna be just AI users anywhere
JO1s Posted March 2 Posted March 2 Twitter outside of certain spaces has turned into this. I've even seen NFT bros gaybaiting recently.
TiaTamera Posted March 2 Posted March 2 Yes and we’ve been had. It started when Instagram adopted filters like Snapchat. On Snapchat, you knew someone was using a filter because a) it was obvious and b) we all had access to the same filters unless someone made like a geotag. IG filters aren’t as obvious and really changes the entire structure of someone’s face compared to Snapchat which added some dog ears, flower crown, and maybe an eye color change. IG had to start tagging the filter used so people can know. These filters allowed anyone to change up their looks without knowing how to use photoshop. And now the advancement in AI is helping people create fake videos of real people with no filming, editing, animation or CGI skills. Anyone can photoshop and make fake videos know. Pictures are worth a thousand words but how many words is a fake picture? I wonder how much of history will be distorted because of it.
popmusicisdead Posted March 2 Posted March 2 no because Barbz on Twitter still exist and AI can't possibly be that dumb 1

On X now there are tons of verified bluecheck bots replying under every tweet to generate revenue unfortunately, so that doesn't even seem to help after Elon's acquisition. If this theory isn't true already, I would definitely say it is starting. Just read an article 2 days ago on GQ re: Johnny Depp trial and bots on twitter: Edited March 2 by Raichu
