Gossip_Boy Posted February 27 Posted February 27 As I said in an older thread it’ll be interesting to see how much this helps independent artists. Personally I’m expecting a surge of indie music.

dabunique Posted February 27 Posted February 27 2 hours ago, professor2000 said: Doja Cat is also being impacted with select songs. I thought she was safe because she’s signed to Sony for label and publishing. But some of her collaborators are signed to UMG pub, causing her to be affected too. She better collab with non-UMG producers then. SN: I heard it’s all getting resolved with UMG shortly anyways…but still. Super annoying. King they took away PTTR & AH this morning

KingWitch Posted February 27 Posted February 27 I just read the full article on this on musicbusinessworld, they're saying it could affect up to 80% of the music on tiktok reason being even if a song has a co-writer thats UMGP, it has to be taken down. It only comes into full effect on 1 March so for now most songs are still up, artists like Adele and Harry Styles will also be affected. Tik tok is trying to downplay it by saying only 30% of music will be affected but industry experts are saying its way too low, the absolute bloodbath on 1 March 2 1
wish Posted February 27 Posted February 27 It's starting to get ugly. Sony and Warner artists must be pissed right now, they probably thought they'd be safe from the bloodbath 2

Blame tiktok for this not lthe label. YouTube already has an agreement for YouTube Shorts where they pay 10% of ad revenue to labels if a song is used in a short which then pay a percentage to artists as royalties, tiktok on the other hand refuses to pay revenue to artists they currently only pay to labels to access the songs but the money doesn't go to artists.
ohwow Posted February 27 Posted February 27 a win for indie artists i fear art might have won for once
