Vermillion Posted February 27 Posted February 27 As I said before, it comes down to who blinks first after the dust settles. I keep reading predictions here that UMG will reverse course soon but I don’t think so.
queenoftheclouds Posted February 27 Posted February 27 They should Take legal Action If anyone Remixes or Change the Songs (slowed/reverb)
Windy Day Posted February 27 Posted February 27 1 hour ago, Ratviolo said: This also impacts many other artists who are not directly under UMG. E.g. Lots of Beyoncé songs (including Cuff It which was massively viral ) have now been removed But yes of course there’s not much they can do about sped up versions or remixes i’m still hearing a tons of gaga and lana and others. thunder by lana is literally going viral as we speak despite her discography being taken down absolutely nothing has changed

It was SoundCloud rap music that blew up... mainstream music didn't come on to TikTok until later on. Anyone who thinks this will break TikTok isn't paying attention or just doesn't know the platform well. Look at Charli D'amelio, Addison Rae and Noah Beck's content that blew them and TikTok up, it was dancing to underground rap music. TikTok will be fine. this lmao tiktok has even been going crazy over a lost media recently umg think they’re indispensable and that tiktok needs them but people really dgaf and will go crazy for something else and in the end umg will be the one losing this 3

Thunder is going mini viral because the demo of Thunder is being used. It will affect new released songs and in Lana's case some songs are already losing steam

Cbreezy Posted February 27 Posted February 27 (edited) This is all so fascinating to watch. It'll either continue for the foreseeable or get solved. But I wonder what the longterm effect will be. For the artists and for TikTok itself. Everything is at an impasse at the moment, but I'm intrigued to see if this ends up being the scenario of: don't f*ck up and ever let anyone know they don't need you, because it's a hard place to come back from when you want back in. This works both ways for TikTok and Universal. It's safe to say that, while TikTok is a huge driver of the music industry, many social media platforms have come and gone over the years. And the cycle will repeat while the music industry itself will continue to exist. In reading that Billboard piece this week about the success of Beyonce's Texas Hold Em etc, it was really interesting to note that IG Reels is really a "thing" in terms of song exposure, even if the conversation into streams isn't TikTok level (yet). Wondering aloud if labels will simply just pivot their attention to that and find more ways to execute via Reels. Whatever the case, this standoff is interesting. Edited February 27 by Cbreezy 1
bumpah Posted February 27 Posted February 27 never let me go by lana is going viral as we speak, doja is safe
PoisonPill Posted February 27 Posted February 27 This could end up being a good thing because it will open up the playing field for lesser known artists to gain exposure on TikTok. 1

Nefertiti0 Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Ava Max has almost all songs removed because Cirkut is signed to UMPG 1

Just cause people consumed that type of content 5 years ago doesn’t mean they will now. Mainstream music is a huge part of the app and people have gotten used to it. Not saying they are going to go bankrupt anytime soon but this seems like a lose-lose for both parties. Tik Tok is profitable so they should just pay artists fairly based on actual views.

The vast majority of lesser known artists js signed to major labels so I highly doubt that. It’s just that they put the well known ones into the headlines. This will also affect every song that has a credited songwriter published under UMPG, even if the main performing artist is on a different label. Since there aren’t that many songwriters in the industry, a vast number of artists who have ever worked with somewhat reputable collaborators will be affected.

professor2000 Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Doja Cat is also being impacted with select songs. I thought she was safe because she’s signed to Sony for label and publishing. But some of her collaborators are signed to UMG pub, causing her to be affected too. She better collab with non-UMG producers then. SN: I heard it’s all getting resolved with UMG shortly anyways…but still. Super annoying.

KingWitch Posted February 27 Posted February 27 UMG is actually doing something good for artists but this will only work if the other Labels/publishing companies join in the boycott.
