Beyonce's "Texas Hold 'Em" just reached #1 on the Hot 100 in Week 2.  It is currently rising on EIGHT different radio formats.  Cruel Summer was #1 for 4 weeks and has great longevity and hitting #1 on multiple formats as well.  But not 8.

In the end when all is said and done, which one will be the bigger hit?

Cruel Summer feels like the type of song that is so huge within her fanbase and some of social media, but the GP likely don't know/care

So far, Texas feels like a GP smash.

Though to be fair, Taylor's fanbase is so huge that it can be argued that it counts as the GP.

no it's not on that level yet, but I wouldn't be shocked if it passes the 2019 song of the summer

Texas Hold Em is doing 5.3m/day on Spotify a few weeks after release.

Cruel Summer is doing 4.4m, five years after release.

If Texas Hold Em is doing those numbers in 5 years we can talk.

Cruel Summer is the signature song of the biggest artist of all time.

The GP are causal listeners. That's why people are always referring to something being big with the GP vs. the fans. If the references about the GP were about the fans as well, it wouldn't be a fair comparison.

The GP is anyone outside of the fanbase of any artist and mostly casual music listeners.

Michael Jackson didn't have a song called Cruel Summer though.

This thread is about the Bananarama song and they have never been THE biggest artist of all time.

What a stupid take. :rip: Not even the craziest Beyhive will believe this. If someone don’t know Cruel Summer do you think they will know TTH? This song is currently just on its 2nd week

Girl, Cruel Summer was announced literally today as the seventh most consumed song of 2023 by the IFPI with over 12 million units worldwide in 2023 alone :deadbanana4:

I'm reeeeeally not sure how Taylor's fanbase alone could have powered it that far

Cruel Summer will end up becoming the biggest female song on Spotify ever by the end of the year/early 2025. So...

Not even close, but I feel Texas Hold ‘Em could end up possibly having a similar fate as BMS as in she released Act 1 and a handful of songs went viral on TikTok, shifting the public away from BMS in favor of Alien Superstar, Heated and Cuff It (squandering any hope of BMS having longevity). Especially since Beyoncé has a lot more people taking notice of her this time.
BMS was obviously never as big or well received as Texas tho.

Unfortunately no cruel summers bridge is a bridge even michelle Williams herself can’t cross. It’s a pop song that will never get boring no matter how many times you replay it. Texas is smashing but in Beyoncé fashion it’s too long for the geepee and doesn’t evoke the same emotion cruel summer brings. So in a couple weeks it will likely be downhill from here and that’s okay because the gworls said she’d never be able to do it again.

Yes, cruel summer is carried by fans. The other is a GP smash. There are only 100m Swifties streaming cruel summer and Taylor monthly on Spotify.
