As a performing artist, has Beyoncé finally surpassed Mariah Carey in the legends tier of popular music? Beyoncé’s streak of 13 #1s spans well over 20 years, while Mariah’s 18 span less than 20 years. Of course, Mariah’s 19th is the holiday classic but it is not necessarily smashing on the strength of her alone (see: Brenda Lee Christmas #1), therefore TEXAS HOLD EM and AIWFCIY are not comparable in size and impact

No obviously not.

Mariah’s talent as a songwriter and vocalist stands alone. She’s the most important and influential writer of modern times.

Beyonce is a fearless creative visionary and the best performer probably ever.

They exist separately. You can’t compare them.

As a soloist she hasn't. But looking at her whole career including Destiny's Child (where she sang lead almost every time :ninja:), I'd say that her career has almost matched Mariah's. While she has never hit the same highs as Mariah did from 1993-95, Beyoncé does have the upper hand when it comes to longevity, especially with newer music. And her massive touring power only strengthens her argument as well.

For now I'd still put Mariah ahead, but Beyoncé is coming. :lakitu:

At at certain stratosphere, there really isn't surpassing it's just getting to the same area of legend hood. Both have things on the other.

There’s no surpassing Mariah or Beyonce, you either join their league or you don’t. Stop being annoying!

You're always making threads to get Beyoncé dragged. Not very subtle.

She doesn't need to surpass any of the women that came before. They came, they saw, they conquered. And she's just joining them.

Honestly there is no way to compare them properly

Beyonce is much younger and from a totally different era

But we can say Beyonce has been around on the top for longer than Mariah and has found more longevity in the industry

Both are indisputable legends

Mariah has… the 90s, her stats from that era are literally insane, has anyone ever dominated a decade like that? On top of that she has arguably the biggest female song of all time and had a huge comeback in the 00s

So idk if Bey surpassed her, but they are in the same league atp

Bey and Mariah are completely different artists, there's no point in comparing them lol. It's like oranges and apples.

but at this point Beyoncé is already a legend in the same pop pantheon as Mariah, Madonna, Céline, Whitney, Barbra, Aretha, Janet, Prince, George Michael, Michael Jackson, Shania Twain, etc.
