You lousy gheys wouldn't have this iconic scene without method acting. Think about it! :gaycat1:

I want to make very clear as someone with an acting degree:

WHAT HOLLYWOOD CELEBRITIES DO IS NOT METHOD ACTING!

Method acting does NOT mean you have to literally become the person you're playing or do any of the ridiculous things. Hollywood likes to do with it. All method acting is supposed to be is you trying to enter the headspace of your character by relating their experiences and thoughts to your own while you're in a scene. The intention of it's creation was solely to make acting more naturalistic. Nowhere does it say that you need to become this person. You're supposed to remain yourself, but just relate to your character. That's it.

What Hollywood does is a very, very, very incorrect and misunderstood version of what is supposed to be an incredibly simple and uninteruptive process.

It’s stupid and awful, and these days it is mostly used by male actors who want an excuse to behave badly.

Exactly, this is why we would never hear about anyone who's method acting as a nice character.
And most method acting actors out there are all annoying about it. Like yes, we know you are method acting because this is the 17th you have talked about it.

It's also okay to lie about it during campaign season to boost your chances for a win/nom.

Otherwise, no.

I am okay with MILD method acting.

My problem is them going overboard and bragging about doing it. As if it's a flex. Chile shut up no one cares

None. It's just another way to perfect your craft, like any other way. This conversation is dumb.

So when a singer is rehearsing 24/7 and singing all the time or going fully silent in order to protect the vocal cords etc etc they're bad singers? Lol

Not an equivalent analogy. A singer shouldn’t need to rehearse a specific song for months before being able to perform it live. They shouldn’t need to eat sleep and breathe a song before they’re confident they can sing it :rip:

Daniel Day Lewis gave the best male performance ever in There Will Be Blood and he uses method acting, so I'm ok with that

One of my favorite gifs lol all that for Kristen Stewart to get the Oscar nom

OT: it depends on who uses it. You can just tell who’s genuinely talented and we can also see right through pretentiousness. Especially when the performance is still subpar

If we are being honest, Kristen did not deserved the nom, Gaga was Patrizia Goochee. In every way.

Says who? KS gave a haunting and fascinating performance. I couldn’t even get through Gaga’s accent

Yes! A lot of people love this movie, especially Streep's performance. She got an Oscar nomination out of it. I think this movie introduced her to a younger generation and really left an impression on younger gays and fashion girlies.

Personally, not a huge fan of the movie but it was a cultural phenomenon, and Streep was right in the center of it :gaycat5:

I'm surprised people here see it as cringe when I think it's crazy that an actor can immerse them selfs into a role so much.

Cringe. It’s called acting for a reason.

funny thing is that those actors you mention weren't making a big deal out of it like Austin Buttler, for them it was just that, part of the process, not a promo strategy.

Meryl actually spoke against it after doing it

It's not like she needed it

And the cast has said that she would break out of the character a lot

So it seems like only the not so talented stay doing it 24/7

She’s not even talking about method acting in this clip though

If you have to become a fictional character to play them in a movie, that tells me you actually can't act.
