shyboi Posted February 24 Posted February 24 I've noticed that only TALENTED actors incorporate method acting, or at least talk about it publicly. You never see mids like John Cena or Amy Schumer method acting. Is method acting straight up cringe or a compromise to achieve greatness? 1
Achilles. Posted February 24 Posted February 24 It’s stupid and awful, and these days it is mostly used by male actors who want an excuse to behave badly. 10
izebize Posted February 24 Posted February 24 It's bullshit that you don't do if you can actually act 2
illia Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Cringe If, in order to do your best acting, you have to recreate the circumstances that your character is in almost exactly and you can never break character, you're a bad actor
Marry The Gods Posted February 24 Posted February 24 It's cute when Gaga does it because we know she's a nerdy theater kid and she doesn't take herself TOO seriously. It is cringe for actors like Jared Leto who use the role as an excuse to behave like an unhinged *******. 1 2 2

Kevin Parker Posted February 24 Posted February 24 None. It's just another way to perfect your craft, like any other way. This conversation is dumb. 20 minutes ago, illia said: Cringe If, in order to do your best acting, you have to recreate the circumstances that your character is in almost exactly and you can never break character, you're a bad actor So when a singer is rehearsing 24/7 and singing all the time or going fully silent in order to protect the vocal chords etc etc they're bad singers? Lol

Revolution Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Stanislavski’s system is great. But this kind of pretentious staying-in-character all the time is not (and has nothing to do with his Method). 1
єѕℓαм Posted February 24 Posted February 24 I personally love it & enjoy watching it both on and off screen
Richie.Valdez Posted February 24 Posted February 24 If you can’t turn the switch off the moment the director says “Cut!” then maybe you can’t really act. 2 1

CoolNebraskaGuy Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Artistry/Artistic expression is almost always perceived as cringe in popular culture unless it has been tailored to your wallet or your aesthetic sensibilities. Method acting is seen as pretentious nonsense by many everyday people, but at the same time it often produces pretty spectacular results. Examples of method acting done well: Marlon Brando - Every role Meryl Streep - Devil Wears Prada Heath Ledger - Batman The Dark Knight Natalie Portman - The Black Swan Robert DeNiro - Taxi Driver Christian Bale - Every role You might not like the process, but the results can be legendary. Guess it's better to not know how the sausage is made for some people 6

For sure. People really milk the snot out of method acting sometimes, especially when campaigning during awards season. Like, Austin Butler's performance as Elvis really didn't merit ignoring his family for years I love Gaga but her interview alongside Selma Hayek for HoG was so hard to watch 1

GentleEarthquake Posted February 24 Posted February 24 I don't get it, if you have to go through such a process to succeed as an actor, are you even good at acting on itself?

He could still get it though, that man is extremely sexy (when he's not channeling the spirit of Elvis) Edited February 24 by CoolNebraskaGuy

DanyelP23 Posted February 24 Posted February 24 It's okay as long as the actor in question doesn't make the life of those around them difficult. It's also okay to lie about it during campaign season to boost your chances for a win/nom. Otherwise, no.
