There are still 2 installments left to publish of the 7-part book series planned. The fifth and so far last installment of the series was released almost 13 years ago :skull:

In between that time, we saw the TV adaptation start and then end very controversially. So, leaving aside if you think GRRM is even gonna finish them, do you all actually still care about the last 2 books anymore?

A lot of people I know are more intrigued  to see how he writes the end as opposed to the tv show.  But they’re restless and have lost interest, it’s a hell of a long time to wait between instalments.

tbh i don't care anymore. he could just sumn everything and end the story

i will care forever

It was actually some months after the show ended that I read all the books for the first time back to back, so with the recency bias the lack of a conclusion still periodically pops into my mind every now and then :gaycat6: I really want him to finish but I’m also not under any delusion that it’ll actually happen. I really think they’re worth getting still because some of the plot threads dropped from the show seem set up to be very integral with what’s left

I read the books a long time ago. I’ll definitely read the next one if it comes out, but I have accepted the fact that the series will probably never be completely finished

He's gonna croak before they're ever finished. I feel so bad for the diehard fans :chick3:

The first book was released in 1996 (!!!). So yeah, no... It's not happening.

Such a shame because after he dies we will get the worst ending possible written by someone else. Dany deserved better, both by the show and the books.

Would I read them if they were ever released? Sure. But would I care about it? No.

It's taking him more than 13 years to finish one book. Let's say he finishes it today: he's 75 years old. If he takes another 13 years to finish the last one he will be 88 years then. Now, there are people older than 85 who are still very lucid and work on the entertainment business but do I find it realistic? No.

No, not really anymore, it’s set in stone.

Sansa, wins, sane ethereal queen.
Dany, loser, crazy evil dictator.

He should have released Winds of Winter right after the show ended. George is going to need to tie everything back together, Grandpa won’t be able to do it in two books. Maybe Dany should nuke kings landing in a chapter to help George out.

Well I'll read them if they're out someday but my hype is lower than ever so I'm not exactly dying to read them. I'm obviously curious about the characters that were cut from the show, and there are plenty of things that can go differently, though at the same time I'd rather focus my energy on series that are likely to be finished.

Yeah sadly

It’s obvious he wrote himself into a corner and has probably redone Wind’s many times over. If there’s something the show did right it was aging up the characters. Sucks I wonder where we would be if he had just gone through with the planned time jump in the books.

he and patrick rothfuss can rot :khalyan2:

No I’ve made peace with the fact that the series will never have a conclusion and learned my lesson

The fanbase is stupid, after GOT ended and their fans jumped ship, it filled with stan twitter cultists that debate who's the "cuntiest" character, the incel bros that hate on every female character and the "GOT ending is the true ending" ******* who swear the books will end the same. Game of Thrones killed the asoiaf discourse, it's not about questioning the ruling system that dooms its own people, now it's a dick measuring contest as shallow as the chart threads on this forum. Although my answer is yes, a more important question is Does the book circle still cares about the last remaining books? Honestly, I don't think they do and I think that's what making George not have Winds out by now.

More like Joncon, the bells from that episode always were a signal to me that he's the one who will burn KL

GRRM & Patrick Rothfuss finish your goddamn book series (IMPOSSIBLE CHALLENGE)

Posted (edited)

Yes. For me it's not even the main storylines I care that much about. I think Dany and Jon will probably end the same as the show.

It's the "side" characters I'm curious about, like the Ironborn storyline (with Euron and whatever he's trying to do), Fake Aegon, Arya & The Faceless Men, etc. These storylines will most likely differ massively from the show and I want to see how he ties them together.

Not anymore sadly.

I'd still buy the books first day if they ever came out ofc, but I've come to terms with the fact that we'll probably never get them, so the books being unfinished doesn't bother me anymore. I just hope that at some point we can get an explanation as to why The Winds Of Winter has taken GRRM 13+ years to write and how he intended to finish the story.

Honestly as a writer myself, I see why he is hesitant to finish it, as there is a lot of pressure to follow up a highly popular book I assume.

But as for waiting for the last 2 books, I don't even have hype anymore. There is a difference between waiting for hype and letting people down like they have been abandoned like this feeling we have with this series, unfortunately.

I can imagine that in the last 4 years, seeing the reception of the show he suddenly felt a ton of pressure to not screw ASOIAF's legacy up like how Dumb & Dumber screwed GoT's chances to become the greatest show of all time
