If no one can bring forward compelling evidence that she has explicitly stolen writing credit (ie. not just contributed minimally but not at all) then you're essentially believing a decades old rumour created and maintained primarily by haters who pick-and-choose information that best proves a point that their same sources actually disprove (see: Rob Fusari, Future, etc.). I think it's unfair to describe fans defending their fave from unfounded claims using actual evidence as "damage control" meanwhile those peddling rumours using incomplete facts attempting to "damage" her reputation are not labeled as slanderous or anything. It's met with chuckles and most often, ignorance to the actual facts we know. Edited February 21 by swissman 2 1
ericcartman Posted February 22 Posted February 22 Honestly if you people didn't put songwriting on some kind of pedestal Beyonce wouldn't have to resort to stuff like this. 1 2
Princess Aurora Posted February 22 Posted February 22 I think this is a problem that goes beyond Beyoncé. I think it's something between the songwriter and the companies, they haven't fixed it in decades. Hopefully, they'll be able to fix it. Prince and Taylor Swift advocated for it but it probably didn't change much :/

k.money Posted February 23 Posted February 23 I could understand the frustration if her claims are all true... But it is kind of part of the beast. For Example: If Beyonce doesn't pick up a song, it may sit in limbo. Is it better to give her "25%" or have the song bring in 0 revenue? Revenue-wise, 100% ownership of "Replay" would not even come close to 10% ownership of a Beyonce song. The industry could be re-shaped, but it's not going to happen from a single song-writer. It's not a great attitude to have, but if you don't like the industry, don't support it.

Why should songwriting not be put on a pedestal? It's the most important aspect of what makes a song catchy and memorable. 1
spiritboy Posted February 23 Posted February 23 Did people really claim that Beyonce is Solange’s mother?
Blue Rose Posted February 23 Posted February 23 Good for Bey. Let’s hope she continues to do so and get y’all fuming even more
Flare Posted February 23 Posted February 23 Bey tends to steal credits often so this is expected. It’s been like that for years. That’s why I respect Taylor Swift for writing and producing so much while keeping her circle small. If you don’t want to pay everyone, don’t do those big writing camps. 2 1
BlossomSoul Posted February 23 Posted February 23 Why would anyone believe different? People don't become billionaires without exploitation 3
chessguy99 Posted February 26 Posted February 26 It's the way the industry works. Artists have always been near the bottom as far as who makes what money off a song. She probably makes more off her split of the writing credit royalties than the royalties for actually singing. And the writer royalties are split between 4+ people most of the time. It's quite sensible for her to demand writing credit. I mean, these writers are making more on a partial credit of a Beyonce song than most of the other songs they wrote. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you.
superben Posted February 26 Posted February 26 This is like the least surprising news about Beyonce 1
Chris Posted February 26 Posted February 26 What credits did Beyonce "steal"? Name some lies examples.

Cleanromantic Posted February 26 Posted February 26 She's been getting away with her thievery and exploitation of talented songwriters because she's manipulated the narrative so well, but these accusations have followed her entire career for a reason 1
