what happened to his first single? i feel like we never heard about it again after the release

Fell off the Spotify top 200 (both global and US) after the second week despite being on TTH. Maybe it can get a second lifeline with the album, but it's not looking too good.

I can’t even imagine what Justin Timberlake has to stay as an artist. It’s so weird and phony. He’s a grown man so he can’t just make dumb pop songs like a free feel good teenager, but he’s also so rich and bland that who beleives this nonsense about “drowning”…. In what? Ugh between this and that horrible gospel baptist song I’m just baffled about his perspective and what he’s even trying to communicate with his music.

This is ageism at its purest

He’s 2/2 :jonny5:

A shame he’s flopping when the music is his best in years

Yeah it's a shame he's flopping, but he never really into the streaming era, and the only album that was, was a flop so this one will suffer from it.

Doesn't sound bad at all but not my thing/sound. Not a JT fan but objectively 'Selfish' if sung by Bieber, Styles, Drake etc...would've smashed. Checks every box of what a hit is rn. Ya, part of it MAY be ageism but I think his brand, demeanor, schtick is just too stale atp esp. for Tik Tok Gen Z-ers. Everything about him still pulsates from TRL 2002 era. Now in a 43 yold body but really doesn't carry himself that much differently lol.

Key demo & demand just aren't there for him. Also, all those Michael Jackson esque (likely inspired) 4-6 year breaks between albums just reconfirms the hubris. In the 80s and 90s that was very effective. Polar opposite in this rapid fire, social media, attention span-less era.

Haven't heard a hit from this era yet

This sounds incredible, I'm absolutely here for it but I don't think he'll ever get a hit again since he keeps digging himself into a hole. I really wish he would've owned and apologized for his behavior in the past, he could've recovered by now but he doubled down and that's kind of insane

He did apologize 3 years ago but people still act as if he never apologized. At this point, people just want to harass him and make him beg for forgiveness in a humiliating way. He’s not wrong for moving on from 20-year BS

Because it doesn't seem genuine, it feels like he's just doing it to save face not because he's actually sorry, that's just my perception but we will be streaming for sure and i'm excited for the albumm

His formula needed to be modernized and I don't mean abandoned for the sake of facelessly copying someone more relevant. There are a million ways for him to progress and balance what's made his music sell with aspects of what makes today's hits a hit. It's like him and his team are completely tuned out and pay no attention to the music that people consume. Mirrors going viral should've given them a hint of what people wanted from him, a timeless melody that resonates with today's music scene. There's no place for this whiny 00's urban pop with a repetitive chorus, mostly because he's done it in the past MANY times over and over. Even What Goes Around sounds more fresh nowadays.

It's not ageism, it's HIM and his image.

Considering the timing it's likely to be a promo single, or a very unprompted one like Supplies. Sounds promising

Yeah, “Selfish” is going to be the worse song on the album, huh?

We need another dance bop

Was it a demo for the new album or just something scrapped from the vault?
