The US insurance system, except for Medicare, does not have the power to negotiate drug prices. There's no regulations on pharma companies for setting their prices so high. So this is the result. A drug that's largely inaccessible because it costs a fortune that no insurance company wants to pay for, and for the diabetics and obese patients who could actually benefit from this medication, they cannot obtain it. It's next level ridiculous. 1
