Most americans want a secure border problem with that deal was that it didnt include a pathway to citizenship for undocumented people already in the country, at the very least for DACA people. Even evangelicals of all people said that the bill shouldve included a pathway to citizenship for DACA recipients. Tbh this is a good ad for DeMs because they are attacking Republicans at their own bullshit game. It is one of the busiest intersections of commerce in the world. There has never been and will never be a time where "illegal crossings" are at 0. That's not how that works. You have a shortage of processing staff in proportion to the current legal framework to enter the country legally. You have an increase of "apprehensions" at the border - still below that of the early 2000s - because Title 42 (aka shutting down the border to asylum seekers and most migrants) just created a bottle neck situation. Most people don't even know that the number of apprehensions is not unique people but includes the same individuals being apprehending over and over.
