They didnt even mention migrants in the video. Most americans want a secure border problem with that deal was that it didnt include a pathway to citizenship for undocumented people already in the country, at the very least for DACA people. Even evangelicals of all people said that the bill shouldve included a pathway to citizenship for DACA recipients.

Tbh this is a good ad for DeMs because they are attacking Republicans at their own bullshit game. Republicans dont really give a crap about the border but they know their base eats that **** up

A secure border is necessary for national security. That's common sense and that's all this ad is suggesting.

The bill seeks to abolish the asylum system. The ad says the bill protects the border from dangers aka that asylum harms America. Who applies for asylum?

Asylum is a form of legal migration.

tbh i rather them help the millions of undocumented people in the country currently, and just close the border from anyone else entering until they fix that first. Do something about the undocumented girls here first with a locked, secured border.

You cannot "close the border" between Mexico and the US. It is one of the busiest intersections of commerce in the world. There has never been and will never be a time where "illegal crossings" are at 0. That's not how that works. To think so is to approach the legal issue of migration with an imaginary understanding of it as law.

The bill literally gives customs and border patrol the new ability to deport any undocumented person that comes into their posession (and anyone who cannot then and there provide legal documentation for their status to be in America) in as little as 5-6 hours without any due process in front of either an immigration court or judge.

The bill is dead anyway. So its not even worth discussing now.

But we do have an immigration crisis right now and it’s more than just border security. There is a reason it’s not just republicans who are concerned with immigration issues right now.

Democratic leaders could call for the execution of migrants to be live streamed on the news and the "vOtE bLUe nO MaTTer wHo" yt folks would find a way to justify it rather than criticize their own party.

Again, this is objectively just not true.

You have a shortage of processing staff in proportion to the current legal framework to enter the country legally.

You have an increase of "apprehensions" at the border - still below that of the early 2000s - because Title 42 (aka shutting down the border to asylum seekers and most migrants) just created a bottle neck situation.

Most people don't even know that the number of apprehensions is not unique people but includes the same individuals being apprehending over and over.

I'm not exactly responding to the people above because they are most likely a lost cause already, but to argue against this kind of nonsense I would like to post this quote for anyone else reading which I find extremely relevant to this thread's discussion:

Quote

"By invoking the state itself as a victim, migrants themselves are cast as illegals and criminals who are committing an act of assault on the state. Migrants become prisoners of passage; their unauthorized migration is considered a trespass, and their very existence is criminalized. In a telling representation, one of the principal detention centers in Canada is the Canadian Immigration Prevention Center (Laval). Migrants are not seen for their actual humanity but instead as a problem to be prevented, deterred, managed, and contained. They become stereotyped by politicians, media, and within popular consciousness as floods of people from “over there” who are “disease ridden,” “fraudulent,” or “security threats.” These narratives buttress moral panics about “keeping borders safe and secure” from poor and racialized migrants. (Walia, 37)"
