I feel like there is a long list of artist that “go country” at some point in their career.  Madonna, I think Tina Turner, Nelly, Kelly Clarkson flirted with the genre, etc.  

 

More recently Halsey and Post Malone have also done it.

No, 2016-2017 was a time many pop artists went the "real music"/"real artist" route. There's Miley, Harry, Kesha, etc. Most of those albums sound dated now, so they were not ahead of their time.

No, I would actually argue it was very much of its time. However, I think it definitely doesn’t deserve all the hate it gets (especially from Gaga’s own fanbase )

No, you can say "ahead of its time" for like 3-4 years, not a whole decade  It's not like she reinvented a new sub-genre or music concept (like Lana did with her sad girl indie music for example)
