Blue Monday Posted February 14 Posted February 14 (edited) 16 minutes ago, qegqeg said: I mean BMS was kind of similar- people were hoping for house/dance and BMS was a super on the nose initial single that everyone said was giving generic, parody, demo etc and then the album was amazing Not to mention the transition from Energy into Break My Soul is a collapse on a level that no one was expecting. I wish I could hear it for the first time all over again Edited February 14 by Blue Monday 2
Rotunda Posted February 14 Posted February 14 (edited) 32 minutes ago, ctlp27 said: I'll be honest I wish the song was better for country. More genre-forward like Kacey has tried to do for instance. I feel like coming to the genre to do the most commercially non original country song is... reductive to the genre itself. Of course, I enjoy listening to it (especially the end) and her voice is very soulful to it but after the work she has done on Act 1, this is not as worked. My guess is that she’s starting with the generic/straight forward stuff so there’s no ambiguity about whether Bey is doing a country album or if it’s just some country-inspired Pop/R&B. I don’t disagree that she could have come stronger though. Edited February 14 by Rotunda
eclipsed Posted February 14 Posted February 14 I like it. It doesn't even really feel like country music to me. It's like the classic pop star turned country sound. I won't make Joanne comparisons coz I don't think it really sounds like that either, I think Gaga was trying to go for something more raw, less polished/squeaky clean. This sounds more like a certain brand of indie folk it has the facade of country music but at its root its just pure pop. I think it was pitchfork who compared it to the lumineers and I know exactly what they mean, I know they meant it in an insulting way and yes it can be tacky but this kind of music is cute now and then. This comparison is going to sound INSANE because they dont sound the same but its like Hilary Duffs All About You where its pure pop with a country twang. I think in a perfect world this should be a hit, but idk sometimes this sound can be very niche but to me it sounds even more so like a straight forward pop song than Break My Soul.

cuteboyzay Posted February 14 Posted February 14 I’m so sorry but I’m getting SO ADDICTED TO THIS SONG !!! It’s so nostalgic and warm and given I’m from Texas and live here it just makes me feel like I’m at home. And I don’t even like country like that. More into Blues. AGHHH!!! 1

SweetTalker Posted February 14 Posted February 14 This is a very fun and carefree song. But yes if you want to get technical, it does almost sound like a parody of country music. It reminds me of that gibberish song by an Italian artist or the Hannah Montana song to some extent, don’t drag me 1 2
Cqmerqn Posted February 14 Posted February 14 Up to #2 on Apple Music UK which is insane for a country song 7

for lovers Posted February 14 Posted February 14 It's good but needed a bit more melancholy. The last minute of the song is how the whole song should've sounded
