mellenthin Posted April 2 Posted April 2 I keep thinking about this album randomly during my days (outside of having it on repeat) and I just want to cry each time. There's so much emotion and intent in these songs. American Requiem -> Blackbird -> 16 Carriages -> Protector alone 1

Why should she when it's 27 tracks? The first part of the album calls out people who said she's not welcome in country music. She gave them old school country while displaying the struggle (Blackbird/16 carriages). Smoke hour part 1 displays strong modern women while slowing shifting away from country theme. Smoke hour II shows her softer, mellow side of strong modern women. Here, we can see her versatility from the beginning. Linda Martell section shows the more non traditional style of music and again her wide range of versatility. She ended it with Honey Buckin, a song that basically shows people she will do whatever the f she wants in a song Then she ended it full circle. Let love in. Amen Gosh, I LOVE it when the smart people drop in. Bey worked so hard on this piece and I HATE to see it go over peoples head lol. 2 1
simon Posted April 2 Posted April 2 What's the overall radio update across the tracks? It seems country is taking a liking to Jolene

Most people aren't checking for Protector because it isn't as dramatic musically as other songs. Sad because it's my favorite on the album. I was nearly in tears the first time I heard it. 1 1 1

The willing, the missing, the wanting Dry eyes just send me across the divide Hangman, teach me how not to cry How not to cry, how not to cry This bridge is so ST/Lem-coded Not only with the lyrics but also the production, it switches to a beat very similar to Ghost/Haunted's and she even sings in a similar style to Ghost and sounds similarly distant and ethereal. I didn't catch that for the first 10 or so times I listened to the album and it was only because I happened to be looking at the lyrics when it got to this part and saw 'the haunting'. Her MIND is just- 1
Kh-Loud Posted April 2 Posted April 2 (edited) Enough time has passed since I was banned for 3 whole days for simply saying "some lady's screaming is very detrimental to our hearing" that I can comfortably say that RENNIE is still my top 2, but not #2 for me. I've always love HyperHoodCuntyYonce over SangerYonce. Having said that, CC is now ranked at #2 on my all time fave pushing Bday to #3. I was so bitter, for 3 whole days I couldn't talk about my new fave music Edited April 2 by Kh-Loud

American Requeim and Spaghetti just won't click. Her only "rapping" I like is the one she does in Alien Superstar. And sorry for having an opinion. Beyonce is my favorite singer-she's very versatile. But that doesn't mean I like all of her styles. Nah don't apologize. You have a right to have an opinion on what you think works and what you think doesn't work. CC isn't my favorite Bey album and people on here came at me for it. I never said the album was trash, I actually love it. I just don't think it's Bey's best work. With that said, Spaghetti isn't a favorite either and I felt the album could have done without it. I'm a fan of Bey talking her ****, but it was wasn't needed this time. PrettyHurts Posted April 2 Posted April 2 It's really ironic how some people are emphasizing that the album isn't "really country" (yes Bey said this herself of course) yet it has so many songs that honor country beautifully like 16, texas, protector, just for fun, ii most wanted, alligator tears. It's almost like some people are struggling to see Beyoncé as somebody who can authentically embody country because they're distracted by the other sounds A genius album tbh 3
Golden Posted April 2 Posted April 2 The ONLY song i don't love as much is Spaghetti. I don't hate the song and I actually LOVE that she raps over Brazilian funk, but I just don't click with it. 4 1
