And unlike most on here, I actually enjoy a lot of country music. If anything, the first few songs on the album which are "pure" country are the best. I admit RENAISSANCE was a grower for me, but upon first listen it ranked like #3 for me, while COWBOY CARTER is competing with IASF for me right now… I can tell from the first track that this will not be country-driven. It's more 60s/70s bluesy rock

She's such an essential female country artist imo and had a style I think could suit Bey very well for a song here (especially if she's going to be exploring a variety of country sounds). Regardless I am absolutely perched for this album, she's going to chew SHE ACTUALLY DID THIS OH MY GOOOOOOOOD 1

ATRL Moderator Azulito Posted March 28 ATRL Moderator Posted March 28 This definitely feels like a celebration of southern music more than anything. It's... okay? It's not as instant as Renaissance was imo. Kinda hard to take it all in after just one listen. I definitely think she could've trimmed the tracklist.

It's honestly pretty subversive and at times quite dark and extremely clever with fantastic production and vocals.

Starshine Posted March 28 Posted March 28 I don't like Tyrant that much besides the beat switch, idk why it was giving me EIL flashbacks. The only chops were the last 3 songs and the Linda Martell section in general.
