playwithme Posted February 9 Posted February 9 Which one of these HBO hit shows is bigger/more impactful/culturally relevant?
Tropez Posted February 9 Posted February 9 GOT killed itself with the last few seasons. Sex and the City did not, however the movies are of dubious quality. Because the TV series kept the quality, it has the edge. The Sopranos has both beat easily as its considered to be HBOs greatest show with the largest cultural influence.

I've never seen anyone referencing GoT for years, but maybe I'm just biased due to the fact that I mainly consume gay-oriented media. I see straight people referencing the Sopranos all the times though.
Blue Monday Posted February 9 Posted February 9 (edited) Sex and the City will always have a better legacy and potential to grow because it maintained a consistent quality throughout its run, and towards the middle/end got really great in terms of the writing and performances. It also is credited with helping establish female fronted shows that dealt with female-centric storylines/issues on television, especially within the “prestige” category. GoT started off strong but the quality of the ending seasons really did a number on its legacy. You also don’t see its impact in other shows that came after it like you do with SATC Edited February 9 by Blue Monday
trueromance Posted February 9 Posted February 9 SATC clears and i feel like it’s constantly referenced in other media 1
Life Savers Posted February 10 Posted February 10 SATC clears. It keeps being referenced and brought up. Even fans erased GOT from their memory after the dreadful ending.
#Beautiful Posted February 10 Posted February 10 both ended kinda ****, sex bc of the 2nd movie not the actual show. not to mention the disgraceful spinoff
Leptine Posted February 10 Posted February 10 The comparison doesn't make any sense. Both have been two of the biggest tv shows of all time for different reasons and in different moments, one is a comedy where for the first time women were explicit and comfortable in talking about sex, it was a game changer for the genre, the other is a fantasy period drama with different kind of audience and purposes becoming a cult as well.
Facelessboy Posted February 10 Posted February 10 Sex the city for Jessica Parker alone. Stunning beautiful women
Josh Posted February 10 Posted February 10 (edited) GOT was a fad. SATC has a legacy and inspired shows after. Women of the 2000's wanted to be Carrie Edited February 10 by Josh
Phaunzie Posted February 13 Posted February 13 Westworld, but y'all don't wanna have that conversation. GOT for the beginning seasons alone.
