Your fave's most experimental album?

You could point to almost any album she's put out in the last 10-15 years and it wouldn't be a bad pick.

the only Madonna album I like from start to finish.  :rip:

Actually? :rip: What about True Blue? Ray of Light? Confessions? or even The Immaculate Collection (although that's kind of cheating).

Well at least someone appreciates it.

so many to choose from. its an impossible decision :khalyan:

honestly .. all of them .. but probably Starry Night Over The Phone & Drinking with my smoking friends

first two were just his main genre but he tried a different sound with his latest two ..

with drinking with my smoking friends .. he decided to do a completely non rap album with indie + Synthpop songs and it really was his most experimental album

totally went all hippie for an era too which was kinda cute .. but after that era he is like yep back to rap so I don't flop anymore

Madonna: Erotica. No other mainstream pop album sounds like it. Truly one of a kind. Ray of Light is NOT experimental, just excellent.

Uggggghhh, Body Language is so perfect and cunty until you get to I Feel for You and then it just completely falls off :deadbanana2:

Loving Days is a Masterpiece, and the bridge of After Dark is one of the cuntiest moments on the album, but I Feel For You and Someday might be the dullest and most insufferable songs Kylie has ever recorded.

Those images are stunning

I've always heard good things about Impossible Princess, I really want to listen to it but also plan to do a Kylie discography deep dive at some point, should I just listen to it now or wait till I've listened to all her older albums?

Wait you don't like After Dark, the best song on the album after Sweet Music of course.

The innovative Pop Bible.

Oh yeah, After Dark is great too! Even Loving Days isn’t that bad, but I Feel for You is so jarring I usually just stop there :snowball: I should try listening to it just without that song lol

Impossible Princess is immaculate but I don't think it should be your first Kylie album (start with Fever imo). If you really want to listen to it, why don't you listen to some tracks off the album and see if you like them? My pick would be Cowboy Style or Say Hey.

Folklore or The Ride, I guess?

Posted

Rihanna- ANTi (Hip-hop, alternative music, Rn'B/Soul, psychedelic music, rock, dancehall, country, industrial)

Billie Eilish- Happier Than Ever (elements of Bossa Nova, rock opera, jazz infusions, trip-hop, techno influences, electropop)

I can understand a case being made for her debut, but it was consistently following a concept and vision for the album, and she mainly stuck to bedroom and alternative pop. However, I don't think HTE had as strong a sonic concept looming around it despite the obvious topics of personal growth, maturity, and media scrutiny. So it saw her explore a range of genres and it was harmoniously all over the place. Plus, it arguably gave us her most experimental songs, 'Oxytocin' and the title track.

Britney Spears- Blackout (Electropop, techno, hints of dubstep, dance, euro-disco, R&B)

Lorde- Solar Power (1960s-70s inspired psychedelic pop, indie, folk-pop, and naturalistic themes)

Olivia- GUTS (mid-1990s influenced pop-rock while retaining her melancholic attitudes from her previous album)

Katy Perry- PRISM (Power pop, bhangra influences, disco, 1990s dance/house, Trap, Hip-hop)
