Gov Hooka Posted February 9 Posted February 9 It’s cute not my favorite but I always loved her voice. Im surprised folks didn’t like star crossed tho… there are some really great, catchy, melodically memorable songs on that album 2
DevonRoars Posted February 9 Posted February 9 Sounds beautiful and like the rightful follow up to Golden Hour.
suburbannature Posted February 9 Posted February 9 I love Kacey to death, but this is the plainest song ever? Disappointed. The wake and bake lyric 1 1
AxelFox Posted February 9 Posted February 9 9 hours ago, CottageHore said: I get what you mean. And like some are saying- this has always been Kacey’s style but this is a little different because most of Kacey’s “on the nose” lyrics are all tied together to a larger very clever metaphor throughout one whole song and they used to be very witty lyrics that made you go “oh wow… that was good.” But these lyrics lack that tied together theme and more so feels diaristic in nature. It’s still great songwriting, there’s just less world building and storytelling. I love this song’s message. I couldn't put my finger on it but I think you explained it very well. I feel the same way. Also, listening to it today it just hit me that it's the vocal processing/layering that I'm not crazy about. I feel like star-crossed suffered from this as well. Her soothing, crystal clear tone is what gives character to a lot of her songs and this double tracking just doesn't translate as well.
Mordecai Posted February 9 Posted February 9 Doesn't sound like lead single material tbh, it sounds more like album opener material - I thought of Slow Burn as I was listening to it for the second time It'll probably click for me when I listen to it in the context of the album
KatyPrismSpirit Posted February 9 Posted February 9 this clicked so much with me already. its so much better with headphones. amazing song and very good lyrics.

masochizm Posted February 9 Posted February 9 those commenting on the lyrics - it’s supposed to feel like she is speaking to the listener on a one to one rather than reading something like a poem i do get the over processed vocals counter arguments however… but i’m fine with that

Go listen to GH again and what makes that album so special is how clear and resonant her vocals are. They’re front and center and yet the instrumentation is still so unique and interesting. I never got into Star-Crossed for the sole reason that the vocals were too processed and murky. I was hoping she’d do away with that processing since Star Crossed flopped but looks like that’s not the case. I just hope this album has more redeeming qualities thematically and melodically to make up for that.
ATRL Moderator wehavetostan Posted February 9 ATRL Moderator Posted February 9 I’m enjoying this, although I do agree with the criticism regarding her vocal processing
paulyyyozd Posted February 9 Posted February 9 damn this hits so close to home on all fronts it's lowkey crazy love it!

LovaticSwiftie Posted February 9 Posted February 9 I really like her, but this is not lead single material and not it. It sounds like a cute album filler at best. 1

That is a very good start, considering it only had 7 hours! Does anyone know how star-crossed or justified started off on Spotify when they were first released? I’m curious to see if they were any similar or not!
