Machete Posted February 5 Posted February 5 The POC artists are valid, the race-issue is real. Now white ones like Ari? You just tanked sis 2 1

That is such a bad take. Serious artists aren’t chasing charts or paid opinions by critics or meaningless popularity contests by corrupt awards. They want their art to be heard and touch audiences. Music not the bling
Pheromosa Posted February 6 Posted February 6 the ones that still submit after complaining serve confused grapes
DamianSolo Posted February 6 Posted February 6 The Grammys really don't mean anything, though. If so, the nominations and wins would look incredibly different—if we're truly talking about the best music of the year. It's a popularity contest, based on biases, connections and playing the music industry game. Who exactly determines who gets these awards? I've never had the ability to vote for anyone. It's all just a farce and a certain select of the music industry just patting themselves and the chosen few on the back.
lovely88 Posted February 7 Posted February 7 They don’t mean anything. The music is what lasts at the end of the day. Nobody cares how many awards you won.
Raptus Posted February 7 Posted February 7 Yes. Artists that really belive that grammys mean nothing don't talk about them at all (like Bjork and Kate Bush).
MingYouToo Posted February 7 Posted February 7 (edited) The GRAMMYs are so institutionalized that whether they like it or not, the POC community that's been constantly wronged and robbed by the Academy will still tune in at the far chance and hope that they change their mind and give them their appropriate flowers. While Taylor did not deserve the Midnights AOTY win, Harry's House is an even bigger offender. He wasn't an omnipresent force in music that year (As It Was was the only real damage he dealt), middling critical reception, wasn't even the biggest seller of the year. While for Midnights one could make the case that it was the dominant album globally of 2023. Renaissance ABSOLUTELY deserved to win over HH. Edited February 7 by MingYouToo
toxicgenie Posted February 7 Posted February 7 The Grammys don't mean everything, but they do mean something. It's still the most prestigious award for musicians. Of course they're not perfect and corruption and racism are factors.
Ambient Posted February 7 Posted February 7 No… they sour grapes until their fave gets at least one Sam thing you could say about Oscars

The only ones serving sour grapes are terminally online stans melting down because their fave didn't win, or writing thinkpieces about who should have been winning, even though they have never so much as sat down at a piano Going strictly by faves, I would want Lana to get it but I recognize it was SZA's year and she deserved it. But nope.
