visions Posted February 5 Posted February 5 They’re important when I deem that they made the correct decision But nah they’re not important, it’s not to be taken seriously, just have fun with it. Celebrate the music that was released and show love to your favourite artists for being nominated or for winning. What IS important, however, is the suspicious AOTY trend that black artists are not given a fair shot at. 3

insomniac Posted February 5 Posted February 5 (edited) Important in that there are way bigger things going on in the world. A Grammy sometimes also is championed as it’s the only thing to make a musician’s work valid or “good”, while that doesn’t make sense. There’s so many artists who have gone years with a successful career and put out plenty of good music yet don’t get Grammy’s. Does it mean their work isn’t valid or “good”? No it doesn’t. Think Lana Del Ray, Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, Jennifer Lopez, Sia, Demi Lovato, Snoop Dogg, Björk, Nas, Queen, Tupac, Diana Ross, and until yesterday Miley Cyrus. They’ve all been successful in music and have never received a Grammy. It’s not everything. Edited February 5 by insomniac 3 2
OrgVisual Posted February 5 Posted February 5 That's why i love acts like Miley or Adele who don't really a **** about these political things and just enjoying the moments. Of course, it's a great achievement for any artists to win a Grammy as it reflects the recognition from your peers. But it's not a "desperate to get" or cry about it if you don't win kind of situation 6
Popular Post Gui Blackout Posted February 5 Popular Post Posted February 5 Her point was very clear. It is important and a huge honor for the winner, but at the same time it's not the end-all in music. You can still be extremely successful, acclaimed and impactful without winning it (and the examples are endless). And this goes for every award. 17 2

She really gave us the first live perf of Flowers ever as a celebration of the success of this decade-defining hit
Jay07 Posted February 5 Posted February 5 (edited) I don't think it's as important as an Oscar that propels actors to bigger roles and better paychecks. It's still the top honor in music though. Edited February 5 by Jay07 2
Lemon Posted February 5 Posted February 5 Then why are people discussing it over and over again? How many threads are too many? Had artists you don’t like won, you would use it against them anyway. Why don’t people step away from rationalising that the awards are not important and truly stop caring then?

That's the only reason she said it She knows it's not important for her but it might be for them that are not big stars 1

It's sad you had to spell it out for the low IQ here, but you spilled. It's a big honor and a good time to recognize your collaborators and your team, but at the end of the day no one in the GP really cares. Edited February 5 by Walk_Away21

WeWon Posted February 5 Posted February 5 Miley’s the type of artist that won’t let a Grammy award get to her head. She’ll still remain humble. We love her for that 6

It's obviously a great honor and she was happy to win it (when she was singing Flowers she even celebrated her win) But it's not the end of the world if you don't have one. 1

I swear this girl can help but be contradictory (i like her and find it endearing) lol I saw it more like other artists who havent won a grammy and have been trying for years shouldn't be beating themselves up for it. As that's how she felt for the past 15 years. 1

Rotunda Posted February 5 Posted February 5 I think it’s important that artist get their flowers. It may not be in the form of a Grammy or Oscar, but it is important for them to feel seen and feel accomplished. I think Miley’s point is closer to what @Raphy23was getting at though. Validation is great, but you shouldn’t stop creating or fighting because you haven’t gotten validation from the industry. 4
