Yes, song of the year is for the song, record of the year is for vinyls :juanny:

Yes, and they should be combined

SOTY is the one who was the best at singing, ROTY is who broke the biggest record of the year

In theory...

Record Of The Year should award the song for its whole, with particular emphasis on production work, vocal performance, and the song's cultural presence that year.

Song Of The Year should award the strongest composition of the year among the submitted songs - considering both lyrics and the songwriting in terms of structure and melodic work. Compositions with unique, creative elements, unconventional structures, atypical topics, and/or powerful messages should typically be rewarded.

You'd think those responsible for voting - people who directly work in the music industry and have probably followed the Grammys for decades - should know the difference by now, but as we know, that isn't always the case, leading us to some truly bizarre winners and ideal contenders being paid dust, if not outright snubbed.

SOTY is for lyrics and ROTY for overall/production?

But I don’t think voters care

You shouldn't be allowed to be nominated for both

I have never watched the show nor paid attention to nominees so I have no idea.

record is i think more big picture and includes other elements of the song’s production

song is just song! like supposed to be most representative and will be most remembered from the year i think

As a homosexual who frequents a pop music forum, yes.

The Academy does not, however (i.e. "Dance the Night" getting a nom for Song and not Record :skull: I don't think it deserved either, but it's clearly a stronger Record than Song)

It’s great song writing because they wrote it to the dance sequence in the movie..  :cm:

They're the same.

Record = Producers get the award

Song = Songwriters get the award
