are they times magazine’s person of the year who can influence 18% of american voters?

In fact you didn't call out just Taylor. You made it about white pop girls. If you're gonna make it a race thing, at least be consistent with it.

And her other close friend is Jewish. So, should she come for Jack to save Gigi?

Does that mean he’s a Zionist? Didn’t he defend Lorde’s decision to cancel her show in Israel?

You do realize tens of thousands of Jewish people are marching for a free Palestine in the streets as well, right?

We are talking about Taylor, she is always silent about social injustices etc. I like her but that's the truth. If you are a artist and not political, are you a artist at all!?

which is why it is in my opinion easier to digest that taylor won’t use her huge platform compared to someone like gaga (one of my faves) who’s been completely silent despite being extremely involved in politics

Taylor will most likely opt for Trump lashings like "We will vote you out in November. @realdonaldtrump" instead of directly endorsing Biden (although I think she will). Gaga will most definitely put on her Kindness Punk cosplay and preach about peace, unity & love while endorsing that senile hag lol

the boomers are. 18-40’s majority are pro-Palestine. Plus, you’re completely ignoring the crucial context of Israel’s rapid loss in support over the recent years. Public opinion as a whole (esp. in a place as wild as America) does not change over night. Anyway, you trying to dismiss the Palestine issue as some online issue that carries no weight in real life is embarrassing as hell.

OT - she should say something. one of her best friends is literally Palestinian. But she wont say anything that would cost her any sort of price to pay. We know she’s a capitalist queen like that.

Ι never said it's an online issue. I said only permanently online trolls are obsessed with making celebrities speak out about an armed conflict. Reading comprehension is important.

hm, it is definitely interesting what the tone of this thread has as opposed to what it would be if it was anyone else.

The terminally online far-left echo chamber and Hamas bots are not the "GP".

The American GP mostly stands with Israel (this includes the majority of the Democrats). The Indies and the Republicans overwhelmingly back Israel.

The probability of Swift saying something even remotely pro-Palestine is about 0%. She's not obliged to say anything, and she will end up endorsing Biden.

You're going to be downvoted but its true GP doesn't care about Hamas or Palestine really.

If she genuinely cared, she already would have.

Not very sure about the implication that there's only one correct way to "care" about an issue.

And I don't think you're getting my point here-- celebrities simply do not have the influence over geopolitical events ATRL and other sites might lead you to believe, so while I know your heart is in the right place, and I also agree that a statement advocating for a ceasefire would be a positive gesture, this is ultimately barking up the wrong tree. Bear in mind Drake, Dua Lipa, JLo etc. signed a petition calling for a ceasefire a while ago but so far that has unforuntately not happened yet.

some of them are trolls. Just like everywhere there are. the rest are either fans who hold their faves accountable (you should learn that) and/or people who are using this time’s momentum to expose media and celebrity bias and hypocrisy. Nothing wrong with that.

In case you’re completely tone deaf - these are desperate times. many fans/celebrity worshippers are getting disillusioned and experiencing the reality slap of celebrity hypocrisy (in it’s deadliest form, mind you) for the very first time. Those people’s frustration is completely rational and valid.

It’s your choice to view it through the “trolling” lens because generally that’s how little you care.

There’s something dystopian about an American pop star being the person who could be the one to stop a war. I’m a swiftie but I think this has all gotten out of hand

That’s what happens when she is constantly pushed as the most powerful star today. If TIME’s Person of the Year can’t speak up about world matters and has a history of not ever doing so, then what her power is all really about?

I wouldn't expect her to get involved normally. And with something like 100 tour dates next year, she's even less likely to do it to avoid putting herself and her public at risk.

Well instead of worrying over what Madonna, Taylor or Beyoncé say or do, if people are truly that passionate, they can write their representative, join a march or donate instead of spending their time in online spaces performing outrage 24/7.

gaga always go out of her way to endorse political candidates to "spread kindness" like you said but the candidates she endorses are involved in wars and massacres all over the world which is mega weird when you think about it :mazen:

millions of people went to the streets. millions of people wrote to theirs representatives. I don’t think these two forms of protests block each other. you can do both.

Secondly, it’s absurd to expect twitter stans who have been ranting about everything and anything on their twitter to suddenly leave twitter and the platforms they possibly have thousands of followers on and go fight people in the streets about it. What an absurd thing to tell someone to do. It’s like me asking you to drop ATRL and only discuss whatever you want to discuss here in real life. what?

Online protests work. It applies pressure. There have been tons of public figures who were pressured into issuing a statement - which means the pressure is there. If Taylor (or any other fan base) fans want to try to do the same then what the hell is wrong with that?
