You always hear that society is for everyone when laws, politicians, and businesses only benefit the wealthiest of people.

That being gay is sinful and sexuality is not fluid only to grow up and discover that people are up to all sorts on the down low behind their partners backs.

Society is based on the idea of constant growth so it is a necessary lie until robots can come and work for us.

"Pull yourself up by your bootstraps" or any other similar sentiment supporting the idea that society is a meritocracy.

“humanity/human nature is inherently fickle or brutish.”

that line of thinking flattens humanity into a simply and fixed idea,  it justifies a lot of atrocities and the lack of intervention to stop said atrocities.

That with age comes wisdom

I'm sure we all know figures whether it be in politics or in other avenues that have knowingly made bad decisions for selfish motives despite their age.

People care way more about looks and appearance than they like to admit. A lof of studies have time and time proven again that people are uncomfortable being seen or being associated with people that they think look less appealing than them

This is true tho. Even if they dont want to admit it because it's "shallow", people also sometimes have friends who are less than them just to make them feel better and boost their ego.

That job is the thing to make you feel full filled. No. You sell your time and knowledge and they pay you, there's no beauty behind it. Of course you can feel good about your job and have fun working, which is great but growing up people talked about work as if that's the reason to live. It's not.

That working hard (and the now refurbished version working smart ******* ew) will get you rich. :rip:

That the state is there to serve its people when it's literally the other way around. :snowball:

That hierarchical power structures are ''natural'' (hierarchy is natural in some cases, but that's not the same thing as hierarchichal power structures). Thinking they are is a right-wing belief.

That all progress is good.

The industrial revolution and capitalism have led us to the point where our food and water supply are irreparably poisoned.

Technology has advanced in ways that humanity is not equipped to handle. We have become addicted to quick and easy hits of dopamine in a way that our brains are not programmed for.

That's before we even get to nuclear weapons, AI, etc - which all pose a threat to humanity as we know it, in the name of "progress".
